How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    THE BUSINESS
      
    Westray Recruitment Group is seeking to recruit a Maintenance Person to work for our Manufacturing based client based in Washington, Tyne & Wear. The role is day shift only.
      
    The role would suit someone with general mechanical skills and some minor electrical knowledge to aid the up-keep of production-based machinery aiding a manufacturing process. Candidates must hold hydraulic, pneumatic knowledge and be proficient with a range of hand tools to change dies and aid machine set up, as well as deliver maintenance activities.
      
    The role of work is not heavy as it forms a light manufacturing industry and the role is well supported via outside contractor services. The business is long since established and in the main the repair processes are not overly complex.  There is plenty of support available with the role.
      
    We are seeking someone skilled within maintenance to repair, service, and maintain production equipment and site infrastructure using appropriate tools and materials. This role is critical to ensuring minimal disruption to operations, maintaining high-quality standards, and supporting continuous production within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in responding to breakdowns, maintaining equipment performance, and supporting operational changes such as equipment reconfiguration, while ensuring full compliance with Health & Safety standards.

    THE ROLE

    Carry out production breakdown maintenance, repairing or replacing equipment in line with the breakdown request system
    Working with hydraulic and pneumatic systems
    Maintaining chain driven conveyor belt systems
    Fixing air fed power tools
    Working to aid the basic up-keep and repair of packaging equipment, hydraulic punches and dies, saws, etc.
    Changing dies and aiding machine set up
    Working to strip and repair parts – relocate bench areas and improve operator work stations
    Working with single phase and 3 phase systems and delivering basic wiring
    Accurately record downtime and associated data for all maintenance activities
    Ensure all activities are conducted in compliance with Health & Safety regulations
    Organise and coordinate contractors and suppliers as required
    Manage inventory within the workshop
    Follow all work instructions, safe working procedures and company policies
    Handle and store materials safely to prevent harm or damage
    Maintain a safe, compliant working environment at all times   

    THE PERSON

    Apprenticeship in an engineering discipline, or equivalent Level 2 NVQ/BTEC with appropriate length of service
    Mechanical bias
    Element of Electrical Multi-skilling - Basic electrical skills – cabling and wiring – single phase/3 phase systems
    Experience working within a manufacturing or production environment
    Working knowledge of maintaining hydraulic and pneumatic systems
    Ability to maintain chain conveyor systems and work with motors
    Experience in breakdown maintenance and equipment repair
    Understanding of production processes and quality standards
