How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Data & Information Governance Officer (Data Protection Officer)

    Salary: £41,607 per annum
    Hours: 37 hours per week | Permanent

    We are searching for an experienced Data & Information Governance Officer (Deputy Data Protection Officer) to play a pivotal role in ensuring our organisation meets the highest standards of compliance, transparency and information management.

    This is an exciting opportunity to work across the organisation, influencing how information is managed, protected and shared while helping to shape best practice and support a culture of accountability.

    The Role

    As our Deputy Data Protection Officer, you will be at the heart of the information governance framework, supporting the Data Protection Officer and leading on key areas of GDPR, Freedom of Information, Environmental Information Regulations and records management.

    You will work closely with colleagues across every service, elected Members and external partners, providing expert advice, developing policies, delivering training and ensuring compliance with an evolving legislative landscape.

    Your responsibilities will include:

    - Supporting the statutory responsibilities under Data Protection, Freedom of Information and Environmental Information legislation.

    - Developing, implementing and reviewing information governance, data protection and records management policies and procedures.

    - Leading on Information Asset Registers, Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), privacy notices and data sharing agreements.

    - Managing and responding to Freedom of Information, Environmental Information and Subject Access Requests within statutory deadlines.

    - Investigating and managing data breaches, advising on remedial actions and supporting ICO reporting where required.

    - Delivering engaging training and guidance to officers, Members and stakeholders across the organisation.

    - Working alongside ICT colleagues to strengthen information security, records management and document management systems.

    - Monitoring legislative changes, ICO guidance and emerging best practice to ensure continuous compliance and improvement.

    - Deputising for the Data Protection Officer when required.

    The Ideal Candidate

    You will be a confident communicator with the ability to translate complex legislation into practical advice for colleagues at every level. You thrive on building relationships, solving problems and driving continuous improvement.

    You will also have:

    - Experience applying Data Protection and Information Governance legislation within a Local Authority or similar environment.

    - Strong working knowledge of UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018 and Freedom of Information legislation.

    - Experience developing and implementing policies, procedures and governance frameworks.

    - Excellent analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills.

    - The ability to work confidently with technical teams and understand information systems.

    - High levels of integrity, professionalism and discretion when handling sensitive information.

    - Strong Microsoft Office skills.

    - A collaborative approach and commitment to delivering excellent public service.

    Essential Qualification

    - GDPR Practitioner Qualification

    Desirable

    - Experience performing as a Data Protection Officer or Deputy DPO.
