How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Are you an experienced practice professional looking to join a modern, growing accountancy firm that genuinely values its people? This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established and forward-thinking practice that combines traditional client service values with a progressive approach to accountancy and business advisory.

Working with an impressive portfolio of owner-managed businesses, you'll play a pivotal role in delivering exceptional client service while leading and developing a team of accountants. With continued growth and investment in both technology and people, this is an ideal opportunity for someone seeking a long-term career move within a supportive and collaborative environment.

What will the Senior Accountant role involve?

Preparing, sending and submitting accounts and tax returns for a portfolio of sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.
Providing training, mentorship and technical guidance to the accounting team and wider business where appropriate.
Checking and reviewing accounting and taxation work produced by the team, offering constructive feedback and support.
Communicating with clients by phone, email, social media and in person, including chasing records where needed.
Onboarding new clients into the portfolio, including initial bookkeeping and compliance handovers to the relevant department.
Assessing and advising clients on their tax position, including tax efficiency and planning opportunities.
Reviewing and advising clients on advisory areas such as cashflow, budgets and pricing, with further training provided on advisory systems.
Completing, reviewing and preparing bookkeeping, VAT returns and CIS where required.
Preparing and delivering year-end client meetings and client fee reviews.
Maintaining electronic filing of books and records, alongside client administration and records management.
Acting as liaison between clients and HM Revenue & Customs to deal with and resolve queries.
Managing ongoing professional development and learning, including any relevant CPD required by a professional body.
Ensuring HMRC and Companies House statutory information is accurate and up to date.
Suitable Candidate for the Senior Accountant vacancy:

Full membership of a chartered professional body, such as AAT, ATT, ACCA or equivalent.
Extensive practice experience, ideally 5+ years, overseeing a broad client base and delivering work directly in a dynamic environment.
Strong experience preparing, reviewing and checking accounts and tax returns for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.
Experience working with client records and systems including Xero, QuickBooks, Dext and FreeAgent.
Sound understanding and working knowledge of tax, with the confidence to advise clients and make practical recommendations.
Strong Microsoft Word and Excel capability.
Excellent time management, with the ability to work to tight deadlines and respond to emerging priorities without compromising attention to detail.
Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information in a straightforward and helpful way.
Curious, proactive and comfortable seeking information from colleagues and clients to support seamless service delivery.
Friendly, professional and customer-focused, with a commitment to continued learning and professional development.
Additional benefits and information for the role of Senior Accountant:

Salary of £44,000 - £50,000 depending on experience.
Permanent, full-time position working 36.5 hours per week.
Office-based role in Waterlooville, with 1 day working from home available.
Opportunity to join a growing, commercially focused accountancy practice with a supportive team culture.
Chance to work with a varied portfolio of inspiring small business clients.
Ongoing professional development, learning and relevant CPD support.
Exposure to advisory work, including cashflow, budgeting, pricing and tax planning.
Modern accounting systems and technology-led working environment.
