How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    The Opportunity

    Advance TRS is working with a well-established environmental and engineering consultancy to recruit InfoWorks ICM Flood Modellers across multiple UK offices.

    Applications are welcomed from professionals at all levels, from early-career modellers through to Principal level, with responsibilities tailored to experience.

    This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly respected flood risk team delivering a wide variety of technically challenging projects that help improve flood resilience, protect communities and support sustainable development across the UK.

    The Role

    The successful candidate will become part of a multidisciplinary team delivering flood modelling and flood risk management projects for a diverse client base across both the public and private sectors.

    Typical responsibilities include:

    Developing and maintaining 1D and 2D hydraulic models using InfoWorks ICM.
    Delivering flood modelling, mapping and flood risk assessments.
    Supporting catchment studies, flood alleviation schemes and strategic planning projects.
    Working closely with engineering, environmental, planning and appraisal teams.
    Preparing technical reports and presenting findings to clients.
    Undertaking GIS analysis using ArcGIS and/or QGIS.
    Supporting hydrological assessments using recognised UK methodologies where required.
    Managing technical tasks and contributing to successful project delivery.
    Building positive relationships with clients, regulators and multidisciplinary project teams.
    Providing mentoring and technical support to junior colleagues where appropriate.Projects may include:

    Catchment-scale flood modelling
    Flood Risk Assessments
    Integrated flood risk studies
    Nature-based flood management solutions
    Options appraisal and feasibility studies
    Flood alleviation scheme design

    About You

    Applicants should demonstrate:

    Experience using InfoWorks ICM for flood modelling.
    Knowledge of both 1D and 2D hydraulic modelling techniques.
    Experience interpreting terrain datasets and producing GIS outputs.
    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    Excellent communication and collaborative working abilities.
    A proactive approach with a focus on delivering high-quality technical work.
    The ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.For more senior appointments, experience in project management, client liaison, business development and work-winning would be advantageous.

    Qualifications & Experience

    Candidates should ideally possess:

    A degree in Civil Engineering, Geography, Environmental Science, Mathematics or a related discipline.
    Chartered status (or active progression towards professional chartership).
    Experience within UK flood risk management projects.
    Knowledge of UK hydrology, including FEH methodologies, would be beneficial.
    An understanding of current UK flood risk policy and industry guidance.
