How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

People In Power is a boutique engineering recruitment business that works exclusively on providing highly experienced people into the Power, Transmission & Distribution market across the UK, building on 10 years of industry knowledge.

Offering a full recruitment solution to Asset Owners, Consultancies, EPC's, OEM's, and ICP's from inception to final handover. Our exceptional service and comprehensive understanding of the sector has allowed us to build an unrivalled network of clients and candidates.

We have exclusively partnered with a national Tier 1 EPC that delivers complex utility and power projects across the UK, looking to secure a Project Manager adept in Pre-Construction.

This role focuses on the successful planning and delivery of early-stage works for high-voltage cable installation and civil engineering projects, including schemes up to 400kV. Working closely with pre-construction, commercial and operational teams, you will take responsibility for ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with programme, budget and client requirements.

    The Role

You will manage pre-construction activities from initial planning through to handover to the delivery teams, coordinating resources, subcontractors and stakeholders to ensure projects are ready for successful construction.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Manage pre-construction projects from planning through to handover.

    * Coordinate civil engineering and HV/EHV cable installation activities on utility infrastructure projects.

    * Monitor programme, quality, safety and budget performance throughout the pre-construction phase.

    * Produce and review project plans, schedules and progress reports.

    * Work closely with delivery teams to ensure a smooth transition into construction.

    * Ensure all activities comply with relevant health, safety, environmental and quality standards.

    * Review and approve RAMS, site documentation and project records.

    * Carry out audits, inspections and safety reviews where required.

    * Promote a strong safety culture across projects and subcontractors.

    * Lead and coordinate site teams and subcontractors during pre-construction works.

    * Plan labour, plant and materials to meet programme requirements.

    * Support the development and performance of project staff.

    * Maintain accurate project documentation and reporting.

    * Work alongside commercial teams on project costs, variations and financial reporting.

    * Support the administration of NEC and other standard forms of contract.

    * Identify delivery risks and develop mitigation plans.

    * Contribute to successful commercial outcomes across projects.

    * Act as the main point of contact for clients, consultants and delivery partners during the pre-construction phase.

    * Attend project meetings and provide regular progress updates.

    * Build strong working relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders to support successful project delivery.

    Your Experience

You will have experience managing utility or infrastructure projects within the power sector and be confident leading multidisciplinary teams through the pre-construction phase.

    * High Voltage (HV) or Extra High Voltage (EHV) cable installation projects.

    * Utility infrastructure or heavy civil engineering works.

    * Planning and managing multiple projects simultaneously.

    * Working under NEC contracts.

    * Managing subcontractors and client relationships.

    * Strong understanding of health, safety and quality requirements.

Previous experience working for a Tier 1 or Tier 2 infrastructure contractor, ICP, utility contractor or major civil engineering business would be advantageous.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established infrastructure contractor delivering major utility projects.
