How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    About Pencil and Brick

    Pencil and Brick is an award-winning, architect-led design and build practice specialising in high-quality private residential renovations and home transformations across North and East London.

    As a RIBA Chartered Practice and active contributor to the Federation of Master Builders, the company combines architectural design excellence with construction delivery - challenging the traditional separation between design and build.

    Working from their studio near Brick Lane, the team focuses on creating thoughtful, innovative homes that genuinely improve how people live. Their projects are design-led, collaborative, and centred around long-term client relationships.

    The Opportunity

    Pencil and Brick is seeking a Project Architect to join its growing architectural team. This role will suit an experienced ARB-registered Architect who enjoys taking ownership of projects from concept through delivery, while mentoring junior team members and contributing to the wider development of a design-led practice.

    You will manage multiple residential projects simultaneously, working closely with the Design Team Lead and construction teams to deliver exceptional private residential schemes. This is a long-term career opportunity with clear progression into senior leadership and director-level positions.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Managing and delivering multiple architectural projects day-to-day

    * Coordinating design stages from concept through technical delivery

    * Preparing planning and building regulation submissions

    * Producing technical drawings, specifications and presentation material

    * Supporting construction teams with technical design input

    * Leading client interactions and managing project experience

    * Mentoring and supporting junior architectural staff

    * Collaborating with senior management to improve processes and delivery

    Requirements

    The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

    * ARB registration with minimum 5 years post-registration UK practice experience Strong private residential project experience

    * Proven Project Architect experience

    * Ability to manage projects independently

    * Excellent technical and design coordination skills

    * Strong communication and client-facing ability

    * Alignment with Pencil and Bricks collaborative, values-led culture

    Desirable Experience

    * Senior Project Architect experience

    * Experience leading small design teams

    * Vectorworks experience (or willingness to learn)

    * Experience delivering architect-led residential projects end-to-end Comfortable working primarily from the Brick Lane studio (Friday WFH policy)

    Benefits

    * 30 days annual leave (including Bank Holidays)

    * 4% employer pension contribution

    * Long service loyalty leave

    * Flexible working policy with Friday work-from-home

    * Business-use contributions (phone/tablet/bike)

    * Enhanced sick and compassionate leave

    * Planned private healthcare offering (2026)

    * Clear structured career progression pathway
