How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Cover Supervisors - Secondary Schools Across Manchester

    September 2026 Start | Flexible Work | Ideal for Graduates

    Are you a graduate considering a career in teaching?

    Looking to gain valuable classroom experience before starting teacher training? Aspire People is recruiting enthusiastic, confident and reliable Cover Supervisors to work across a range of secondary schools throughout Manchester from September 2026.

    This is the perfect opportunity for graduates who want to experience life in the classroom, develop behaviour management skills and build their confidence working with young people. Whether you're planning to train as a teacher or simply have a passion for education, this flexible role offers hands-on experience while allowing you to work around your availability.

    About the Role
    As a Cover Supervisor, you will supervise whole classes during the short-term absence of a teacher, delivering pre-prepared lesson plans across a variety of subjects. You won't be expected to plan or mark work, but you will play a key role in ensuring students remain engaged, on task and working in a positive learning environment.

    You'll work in different secondary schools across Manchester, giving you the opportunity to experience a variety of school settings, build your confidence and develop your classroom management skills.

    No two days are the same, making this an exciting and rewarding role for someone who enjoys variety and thrives in a fast-paced environment.

    Key Responsibilities
    * Deliver pre-prepared lessons across a range of secondary school subjects.
    * Manage classroom behaviour in line with each school's behaviour policy.
    * Create a positive, productive and respectful learning environment.
    * Encourage student participation and maintain engagement throughout lessons.
    * Think on your feet and respond calmly to different classroom situations.
    * Follow school procedures and safeguarding policies at all times.
    * Provide feedback to teaching staff following each lesson.
    * Represent Aspire People professionally in every school you work in.

    What We're Looking For
    We are looking for individuals who are:
    * Graduates with a UK Bachelor's degree.
    * Passionate about education and inspiring young people.
    * Interested in pursuing a career in teaching or education.
    * Confident leading groups of students in a classroom environment.
    * Resilient, adaptable and able to remain calm under pressure.
    * Strong communicators with excellent interpersonal skills.
    * Able to engage and motivate students from a range of backgrounds.
    * Confident in managing challenging behaviour and maintaining high expectations.
    * Able to follow and implement school behaviour policies consistently and effectively.
    * Reliable, punctual and professional.
    * Flexible and available to work at short notice.

    Previous experience working with children or young people is highly desirable. This could include tutoring, mentoring, coaching, youth work, teaching assistant roles, sports coaching, summer camps or voluntary work.

    Flexibility That Works Around You
    This is an ideal role if you're looking for flexible work. You can choose the days you're available, with assignments offered on an ad hoc basis throughout the academic year.
    Many schools contact us early in the morning to arrange same-day cover, so successful applicants should be responsive to morning phone calls and available to travel to schools across Manchester at short notice where possible.

    Essential Requirements
    * UK Bachelor's degree.
    * Experience working with children or young people (preferred).
    * Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
    * References covering the last two years.
    * Right to work in the UK.
    * A genuine interest in education and supporting young people's learning.

    Why Join Aspire People?
    * Flexible work to suit your availability.
    * Competitive daily rates.
    * Opportunities to work in a wide range of secondary schools across Manchester.
    * Ongoing support from a dedicated Aspire People consultant.
    * Opportunities for long-term, permanent and teacher training pathways.
    * Build your confidence, classroom management skills and understanding of secondary education.

    If you're ready to take the first step towards a career in education and want to gain invaluable classroom experience in a flexible and rewarding role, we'd love to hear from you.

    Apply today to join Aspire People as a Cover Supervisor for the September 2026 academic year and start making a positive impact in secondary schools across Manchester.
