How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Location: Falmer, with hybrid working available
    Sector: Water & Wastewater Engineering
    Salary: Competitive, depending on experience

We’re working with a leading integrated design and build provider in the water sector to recruit an experienced Principal EICA Engineer to join their Engineering team based in Falmer.

Hybrid working is available, with regular travel to project sites expected as part of the role.

Reporting directly to the Regional Design Lead, you’ll provide high-quality engineering design services across a range of turnkey and engineering services contracts. You’ll play a key role in coordinating designs and producing technical documentation and drawings, ensuring all solutions meet the required health and safety standards, specifications and relevant industry requirements.

This is a senior technical role where you’ll have a significant influence on the development of cost-effective, practical and buildable solutions for water and wastewater treatment projects. You’ll consider the complete outturn cost of design solutions, including design time, materials, construction, installation and any impact on other disciplines.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Produce cost-effective, practical design layouts that meet specifications and can be constructed and commissioned effectively.

    * Coordinate designs across internal and external disciplines to ensure fully integrated project solutions.

    * Provide technical estimates and feedback to support proposals and maintain competitiveness.

    * Develop, review and improve departmental procedures and processes.

    * Maintain accurate project files and records throughout the duration of contracts.

    * Support the supervision, development and mentoring of staff.

    * Promote high standards of customer satisfaction, Health & Safety and environmental responsibility.

    * Help minimise waste and ensure environmental considerations are incorporated into design solutions.

    About You

We’re looking for an experienced engineering professional with a strong understanding of water and wastewater treatment and a proven ability to develop practical, economic and technically robust plant layouts.

You’ll have experience managing staff involved in the design of relevant engineering disciplines within water and wastewater treatment plants, together with full membership of a relevant professional institution and Chartered Engineer status.

    What You'll Need

    * Relevant engineering degree, or relevant HND with extensive suitable experience.

    * Strong understanding of water and sewage treatment principles.

    * Experience managing design teams or staff within the water and wastewater sector.

    * Chartered Engineer status and full membership of a relevant professional institution.

    * Ability to rationalise designs and produce economic plant layouts.

    * Broad knowledge of water treatment disciplines, including mechanical, process and electrical engineering, as well as project management.

    * Ability to assimilate and interpret complex and varied information.

    * Strong communication skills, with the ability to present technical proposals clearly and confidently.

    * Computer literacy and a full driving licence.

    * A relevant Engineering Master's degree would be desirable.

    About the Client

Our client is a major integrated design and build provider operating within the water sector, with more than 1,000 employees working across multiple regional centres.

The organisation supports a significant portfolio of long-term water sector frameworks and delivers projects through a combination of direct contracting, joint ventures and strategic alliances.

People are central to the organisation's success. The business is committed to building diverse, creative and high-performing teams where different perspectives, experiences and skills are valued. Employees are encouraged to develop, grow and reach their full potential in an environment that supports collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement.

The organisation is also committed to supporting service leavers and veterans transitioning into civilian employment, as well as promoting positive mental health in the workplace.

    What’s on offer?

The package includes a competitive salary, hybrid working where the role and project requirements allow, and a car or car allowance depending on role requirements.

You’ll also receive 25 days' holiday plus bank holidays, with the option to buy up to an additional five days, a contributory pension scheme, life assurance, health insurance and private medical insurance.

Additional benefits include a Cycle to Work scheme, discounts and savings through an employee benefits hub, Kids Pass and many more.

If you’re an experienced Principal EICA Engineer with a background in water and wastewater treatment design, and you’re looking for the opportunity to work on major infrastructure projects within a collaborative and forward-thinking organisation, we’d be keen to hear from you
