SEN Nanny in York, YO51. A rewarding full-time, 4-day week opportunity for a warm, proactive and experienced SEN Nanny to support a wonderful 9-year-old boy with Epilepsy. £40,404.00 Gross P/A
* Nearest Station: Knaresborough railway station
* Salary/Wage: £40,404.00 Gross Per Annum / £21.00 Gross Per hour
* Driving Requirements: Yes – automatic car to use when on duty
* Essential: Experience supporting children with additional needs. A calm, patient and reassuring approach, with the ability to remain composed in emergency situations. Willingness to undertake epilepsy and seizure management training before starting if not already experienced in this area.
* Desirable: Previous experience supporting a child with epilepsy or managing seizures, although full training will be provided by the family and their epilepsy nursing team.
* Start Date: ASAP (ideally before September)
* Days & Hours: 37 Hours a week, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 8.00 am to 6.00 pm. Friday 8.30 am to 3.30 pm. During school holidays, hours can be condensed into three longer days. Additional Ad-hoc evening babysitting hours are to be mutually agreed.

About the Client/Child Bodhi (9) is an incredibly happy, caring and affectionate little boy with a wonderful sense of humour. He has a diagnosis of Dravet Syndrome, a rare genetic epilepsy, and has a developmental delay of approximately four years. Most of Bodhi’s seizures occur overnight (except when unwell) and self-resolve after around 30 seconds. Bodhi loves being active and engaged and enjoys a variety of activities including colouring, drawing, playing with cars, reading, swimming, tennis, board games and jigsaw puzzles. He is a big fan of Toy Story, Cars and music, and especially enjoys being given little jobs to complete, taking great pride in achieving things independently. Bodhi also has a younger sister, Rose, aged 7, who is a typical girly girl with a kind and caring nature. She adores her big brother and loves helping him whenever she can. The siblings share a lovely bond, and while the role is primarily focused on Bodhi, there will naturally be opportunities to encourage and include both children during activities.
The Role at a Glance This is a rewarding role supporting Bodhi both at home and also as a 1:1 support to him throughout his school day during term time. The role begins at the family home, supporting Mum with the morning routine. You will then drive Bodhi to his village primary school (YO61 - approximately 30 minutes away) on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays (he has Wednesday’s off, and Mum will do drop off and pick up on Friday’s). You will provide dedicated 1:1 support, mainly ensuring his safety, but also helping him access learning, using visual supports, encouraging independence and supporting with healthcare needs, including epilepsy management, in line with his care plan. However, the school will lead on his education, and all training is provided. After school on those 3 days, you will bring Bodhi home for down time and dinner before Mum arrives home. Daytime seizures are rare but do occur, particularly if he is unwell. They resolve within 30 seconds to one minute with little intervention apart from creating a safe space; there is an epilepsy care plan to follow.

Someone who is confident, unflappable and able to remain calm in unexpected situations will thrive in this role. Experience supporting children with epilepsy or additional needs is beneficial, but full training will be provided.
