How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Contract Type: Variable hour, Fixed term (2years)
    Location: Sheffield, The University of Sheffield International College (On-Site)
    Salary: up to £39.41 per hour
    The University of Sheffield International College and its programmes are provided by Study Group in collaboration with the University of Sheffield.
    The Academic Tutor (Physics) will deliver high-quality education within the Science team. The successful candidate will primarily be responsible for teaching the Foundation Level Physics module.
    ABOUT THE ROLE
    * Deliver Academic Provision: Teach groups of international students at RQF Level 3 (International Foundation Year) with an average class size of 18–20 students.
    * Module Delivery & Support: Effectively deliver the Physics module, working in seminar and laboratory classes alongside teaching and support staff.
    * Assessment & Feedback: Undertake formative and summative marking and provide constructive feedback on a variety of student assessments.
    * Module Coordination: Act as Module Coordinator where required; this may include leading a small teaching team, performing quality assurance checks on marking, and updating module materials.
    * Quality Assurance: Engage fully with the college’s quality assurance procedures, moderation, and standardisation processes.
    * Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement module enhancement needs and opportunities to optimise student outcomes.
    * Team Collaboration: Work actively as part of a busy, multidisciplinary team, contributing to meetings and communicating effectively with colleagues.
    ABOUT YOU
    * A degree in a Physical Science or Engineering or a related discipline
    * A recognized teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, HEA Fellowship).
    * Experience teaching Physics or a related discipline within UK Higher Education, Further Education,Sixth Form or equivalent
    * Experience of assessment marking and writing at a minimum of RQF Level 3 or above (A-Level / Foundation level / Undergraduate).
    * Demonstrable experience or capability to provide cross-disciplinary teaching support in a related module: Project Skills for STEM (requires MATLAB knowledge) or Mathematics.
    * Experience of coordinating academic modules or equivalent academic leadership.
    * Experience working with international students
