How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Graduate Cover Supervisor

Start your career in education with structured training, real classroom experience and support from a local agency that invests in you.

Local Education is recruiting graduates for Cover Supervisor opportunities beginning in September across partner secondary schools in South Essex. As a GCA-approved supplier, we are entering the new academic year with access to more school and trust partnerships than ever before, creating opportunities for graduates who want meaningful experience before teacher training or a longer-term career in education.

A Cover Supervisor manages a class during the short-term absence of the usual teacher. The lesson and resources are normally prepared for you. Your role is to explain the work clearly, keep pupils focused, follow the school’s behaviour policy and provide feedback at the end of the lesson.

This is one of the most valuable ways to understand whether teaching is right for you. You will develop classroom presence, behaviour management, communication and confidence while seeing how different schools operate. Many Cover Supervisors later progress into teacher training, unqualified teaching, learning support or permanent school positions.

    Why join Local Education?

We do not believe in sending new candidates into schools without preparation. Our in-house training support is designed to help you understand the role before your first placement.

    You will receive:

    - Cover Supervisor preparation and practical classroom guidance
    - Safeguarding and behaviour management training
    - School-specific induction materials where available
    - Clear briefing before each placement
    - Ongoing support and honest feedback
    - Access to daily, long-term and potential temp-to-permanent opportunities
    - Weekly PAYE pay with a clear breakdown on your payslip
    - Support identifying the type of school and career path that suits you

Where a partner school provides its policies and procedures, we can also prepare you on its expectations before you arrive, including behaviour systems, safeguarding processes and practical information. This helps you begin with greater confidence and gives the school a better-prepared member of staff.

    What will you do?

    - Supervise pre-planned lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4
    - Give clear instructions and help pupils remain on task
    - Apply the school’s behaviour policy calmly and consistently
    - Build professional relationships with pupils and staff
    - Record relevant information for the absent teacher
    - Support the wider school day where required

We would like to hear from graduates who:

    - Hold a degree or are completing one
    - Are considering teaching, education, youth work or a related career
    - Communicate clearly and confidently
    - Can remain calm, fair and professional
    - Are reliable and willing to learn
    - Have the right to work in the UK

Experience with young people through tutoring, coaching, mentoring, camps, youth groups, care or volunteering is helpful, but not essential. All appointments remain subject to safer recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS, references and eligibility checks.

September is the ideal time to begin because schools are planning both flexible cover and longer-term staffing.

Apply through CV-Library today and a member of the Local Education team will contact suitable applicants to discuss training, availability, preferred locations and the next step into education
