How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Fire Safety Consultant – London & Surrounding Region | Fire Risk Assessment Careers

Location: London-based, field-based role with home working Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience + benefits package Hours: Full-time, flexible working

    The story so far

Around half a decade ago, this fire engineering consultancy was a handful of engineers with a shared frustration: too many fire safety careers are built on rigid hierarchies and box-ticking rather than genuine professional judgement. So they decided to build something different.

Today that team has grown nearly fourfold, split across two fast-scaling offices, with plans to open in further UK cities and launch further divisions in the coming months. As the practice grows, so does the variety and volume of fire risk assessment work coming through the door, which means a genuinely broad caseload for the right consultant, not the same building type on repeat.

    The role

You'll be out across London and the wider region carrying out fire risk assessments on retail units, hotels and leisure venues, care homes, residential blocks, schools, commercial and industrial premises, making judgement calls that have an immediate, tangible effect on the people using those buildings. No two site visits look the same, and no two reports are a copy-paste job.

You'll work autonomously, managing your own diary and client relationships, while staying connected to a wider technical team (including practising fire engineers) for the moments where a case needs a second opinion or steps beyond a standard FRA — including exposure to External Wall Assessment work for consultants qualified to take it on.

    What you'll actually be doing:

    * Carrying out fire risk assessments: pre-occupation, standard, and re-inspections across a genuinely varied property portfolio

    * Delivering pragmatic, proportionate advice rather than blanket worst-case recommendations: this is a role that rewards good judgement, not just checklist-following

    * Writing clear, audience-appropriate technical reports using in-house software built specifically for the job

    * Managing client relationships directly, you're often the only face of the business a client sees

    * Keeping current with fire safety legislation, regulation and best practice, and feeding that knowledge back into the wider team

    * Mentoring junior consultants and engineers as your own experience grows

    * Taking on External Wall Assessment work as your qualifications and experience allow, a genuine growth area within the role

    What we're looking for

This role suits someone who already knows their way around an occupied building and has the confidence to make a judgement call and stand behind it, not necessarily someone from a traditional engineering design background.

    * Level 4+ Fire Risk Assessment qualification

    * Registered member of the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE)

    * A minimum of 4 years' proven track record delivering fire risk assessments

    * Strong, current knowledge of fire safety legislation, regulation and industry best practice

    * A full, valid UK driving licence — this role covers a genuine patch of sites, not a single building

    * Confident, strong customer-facing manner — you'll be dealing directly with clients, building owners and managing agents

    * Good numerical and problem-solving ability, and a clear, professional communication style (written, verbal, and in reporting)

    * Comfortable working as part of a wider multidisciplinary team when a case needs it

    What you'll get

    * Hybrid working — all office work can be done from home

    * A real training budget: a dedicated annual training allowance per person, plus a personal growth plan agreed directly with your line manager, not a generic CPD checklist

    * One of the best holiday/working splits in the industry, scaling with your experience

    * Company bonus scheme, enhanced pension, life assurance, and an Employee Assistance Programme

    * Enhanced maternity and paternity leave

    * Professional membership subscriptions paid for you

    * An operations team behind the scenes handling the admin, travel and training logistics, so you can focus on the assessments and the clients

    * Regular company social events and a genuinely tight-knit, growing team culture

    Why now

If you're an experienced fire risk assessor who wants more variety, a genuine say in how you manage your own patch, and a practice that's still growing rather than set in its ways — this is a good time to have that conversation. There's real scope here to build toward EWA/PAS 9980-level work as you develop, rather than being boxed into standard FRAs indefinitely.
