How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    The Role

As a Service Engineer with a HGV background you'll be responsible for ensuring customers' vehicles remain safe, reliable and operational throughout the year. You'll undertake planned servicing, fault finding, repairs and emergency breakdown support while delivering a professional service at customer sites. The role is varied and offers genuine autonomy, backed by excellent technical support, ongoing manufacturer training and industry-leading diagnostic equipment.

Carry out routine servicing and preventative maintenance on specialist HGVs.
Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults using modern diagnostic equipment.
Attend vehicle breakdowns and complete repairs to minimise customer downtime.
Complete all service documentation electronically using a company tablet.
Maintain excellent customer relationships while representing the business professionally.
Work collaboratively with the wider engineering and technical support teams.
Support seasonal operational requirements, with increased demand during the winter months.

Service Engineer (HGV) - About You

We're keen to speak with experienced commercial vehicle engineers who have:

A minimum of three years' experience maintaining and repairing HGVs or PSVs.
    Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
Previous experience working in a mobile service role (desirable but not essential).
Experience working on leading commercial vehicle brands such as Mercedes or DAF would be advantageous.
An HGV Class 2 licence (or willingness to obtain one) would be beneficial.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
The ability to work independently and manage your own workload effectively.
Flexibility to support seasonal call-out requirements.

Service Engineer (HGV) - What's on Offer

Our client recognises the value of experienced engineers and offers an excellent package, including:

    Competitive basic salary.
    Door-to-door pay.
    Overtime opportunities.
    Standby/call-out allowance.
    Company pension.
    Fully equipped high-specification service van.
    Specialist tools and diagnostic equipment.
    Ongoing product and manufacturer training.
    Health and wellbeing support.
    Life assurance.
