How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Health & Safety Lead

    Are you passionate about creating safe, healthy, and compliant workplaces? Do you have the confidence to influence positive behaviours and foster a strong safety culture in the bus industry?

    Nottingham City Transport is looking for an experienced and proactive Health & Safety professional to lead its Health and Safety department.

    Based in Nottingham, this is a standalone role with real autonomy. You'll take ownership of our health and safety function across all our sites, working alongside managers and colleagues from every part of the business. Some things are well established, others need developing, and you'll be trusted to identify opportunities, find practical solutions and make things happen.

    Key Responsibilities

    Provide professional health and safety advice and guidance to managers and employees across all sites.
    Conduct workplace inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions
    Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses, and safety concerns; producing reports and implementing preventative measures
    Support the development, review, and implementation of health and safety policies, procedures, and safe working practices
    Deliver engaging health and safety training, toolbox talks, and awareness campaigns
    Monitor compliance with relevant health and safety legislation and industry standards
    Analyse safety performance data and trends; providing recommendations to improve outcomes
    Work in collaboration with operational teams to promote a positive and proactive safety culture
    Assist with regulatory inspections and liaise with external agencies where requiredAbout You

    Experienced in successfully creating and delivering training sessions to a diverse audience
    Able to analyse data and produce reports 
    A proficient IT user with good experience using Microsoft Office suiteEssential Requirements

    NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent Health & Safety qualification)
    Previous experience in a Health & Safety Advisor or similar role
    Sound knowledge of UK health and safety legislation
    Experience conducting investigations, audits, inspections, and risk assessments
    Excellent report-writing and analytical skills
    Full UK driving licenceDesirable Requirements

    NEBOSH Diploma or working towards a higher-level H&S qualification
    Membership of IOSH (TechIOSH, GradIOSH, or Chartered status)
    Experience within transport, logistics, engineering, manufacturing, or a similar operational environment
    Experience delivering health and safety trainingHours of Work

    Your hours of work will be 37 hrs per week, Monday to Friday; between the core hours of 7 am to 5 pm; with an unpaid meal break. Please note that some flexibility will be required to meet business needs.

    Salary and benefits

    £40 to £43k per annum
    Permanent role, based on-site in Nottingham
    25 days holiday per year plus recognised Bank Holidays
