How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Help us to make a world of difference

Urenco is a global leader in the production of low carbon energy. We work at the cutting edge of the transition to a sustainable, net zero world.

We are seeking a Senior Control & Instrumentation Engineer (Design Engineering) to join our Group Design Engineering team based at Urenco’s Capenhurst site. In this role, you will deliver Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) services, including technical feasibility and Best Available Technology (BAT) studies, for a variety of Urenco projects globally. As the Senior C&I Engineer, you will oversee the Conceptual and Basic Design of new builds or facility modifications, providing direction and oversight to third-party engineering service providers to ensure high-quality outcomes.

You will also play a crucial role in developing Urenco’s design standards to meet world-class safety and regulatory requirements, helping Urenco maintain its position as a preferred supplier within the nuclear enrichment sector. Your expertise will inform plant design specifications, asset management strategies, CapEx planning, and safety protocols, enhancing our safety and operational efficiency.

At Urenco, we are dedicated to creating opportunities for you to realise your potential. If you feel you meet most, but not all, of the requirements, we encourage you to apply, as we value diverse experience and provide exceptional training and development. You’ll also have the opportunity to be mentored by some of the industry’s most knowledgeable professionals.

    What you’ll do:

Promote Safety Culture: Drive a proactive safety culture, conducting thorough analyses and fostering a learning mindset based on industry experience.
Advanced Plant Design: Ensure that plant designs incorporate the latest technology and safety features aligned with industry best practices and nuclear sector insights.
C&I Design Engineering: Lead, prepare, and advise the evaluation of Control & Instrumentation design on multiple projects, support feasibility studies, option analyses, and BAT studies.
Conceptual and Basic Design Delivery: Lead and prepare high-quality Conceptual and Basic Design engineering deliverables and Specifications for Core Plant Technology (CPT) with a focus on the C&I discipline.
Project Oversight and Quality Assurance: Provide direction acting as the intelligent customer and provide oversight for system integrator detailed design execution, ensuring high quality delivery and adherence to CPT basic design requirements.
Technical Excellence: Define and maintain CPT design expertise according to Urenco’s high safety standards and the latest technological advances in design.
What do you need to thrive in this role?

Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline.
Specialist Knowledge: Recognised as an expert with in-depth knowledge and excellent problem-solving skills in C&I and automation.
Proven Experience: Demonstrable track record of delivering complex design projects, including FEED and conceptual and basic designs for process facilities.
Leadership Experience: Minimum of 3 years in a lead engineer role.
Modelling and Simulation Skills: Proficiency in modelling and simulating integrated process systems (static and dynamic), considering mechanical and process requirements.
Analytical and Problem-Solving Abilities: Ability to apply expertise and past experience to solve challenges and contribute to organisational learning.
C&I Expertise: Strong knowledge of C&I (automation) within the process industry.
Data Analysis: Competency in analysing measurement data from complex process systems to troubleshoot, optimise performance, and determine root causes of events.
    What We Offer You

Generous Annual Leave: Starting at 25 days, increasing by one day every two years (up to 30 days), plus 13 additional flexible days. Option to buy or sell up to 5 holiday days.
Family-Friendly Policies: A wide range of policies to support work-life balance and family needs.
Bonus Scheme: A competitive bonus scheme based on company and individual performance.
Pension Scheme: Defined contribution plan with up to 16% employer contribution.
Private Medical & Dental Cover: Single coverage with the option to purchase additional benefits.
Flexible Benefits: Life assurance, income protection, and other options tailored to your lifestyle, with tax and National Insurance savings.
Training & Development: A focus on continuous learning, with personalised training packages to support your career growth, including mandatory health and safety courses.
    Security vetting

Due to the nature of the industry that Urenco operates in, all personnel regardless of employment status working for Urenco are required to obtain security clearance at the level required for their role. Security clearances are assessed in accordance with regulations and official guidance issued by the relevant competent authorities for national security vetting. In certain circumstances, additional enhanced security clearance considerations apply to roles within Urenco owing to the particular activities that the Urenco Group undertakes in relation to uranium enrichment. Successful candidates will need to satisfy security requirements, and all offers of appointment are made subject to the successful approval of all checks initiated.
