How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Project Portfolio Director - Major Capital Projects | National

A leading industrial cement manufacturing business is seeking a Project Portfolio Director to lead the development and governance of a significant portfolio of strategic capital investment projects across the UK & Ireland.

This is a senior leadership opportunity for an experienced engineering and capital projects professional who has successfully delivered complex, high value industrial programmes and is comfortable operating at executive level.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the future investment strategy of the business, overseeing projects from concept and feasibility through to investment approval, execution and operational handover.

This role sits at the centre of a major multiyear investment programme focused on asset modernisation, operational efficiency, sustainability, energy transition and industrial transformation initiatives.

    Key Responsibilities:

Lead the strategic capital projects portfolio across multiple industrial cement plants.
Shape investment priorities and project roadmaps.
Develop robust business cases, feasibility studies and investment proposals.
Provide governance and oversight across project execution and commissioning.
Lead and develop a team of senior project leaders.
Partner with engineering, operations, procurement, legal, finance and executive stakeholders.
Manage relationships with external engineering partners, contractors, consultants and equipment suppliers.
Drive excellence in safety, commercial performance, risk management and project delivery.
    Essential Experience:

A strong track record in major project delivery in the cement industry (or other relevant industrial sectors) across all phases of the project lifecycle.
15+ years' experience within the cement industry in capital projects, engineering, operations or industrial asset environments.
Proven leadership of large-scale industrial capital investment projects from concept through to commissioning.
Experience developing project concepts, feasibility studies and business cases for executive or board level approval.
Strong understanding of project governance, commercial strategy, risk management and stakeholder engagement.
Experience managing multiple complex projects simultaneously.
Significant people leadership experience, including developing and leading senior project teams.
Strong communication and influencing skills with the ability to operate across executive, technical and operational stakeholder groups.
Degree qualified in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
    Highly Desirable:

Background within heavy industrial manufacturing minerals, mining, quarrying, construction materials, chemicals, power generation or other process industries.
Experience delivering investments valued at £50m+ to £250m+.
Exposure to sustainability, decarbonisation, energy transition or plant transformation programmes.
Contract strategy and commercial negotiation experience.
    Postgraduate, commercial or business qualification.
    Who They're Looking For:
You'll be a strategic thinker with strong technical credibility, capable of balancing long-term vision with operational delivery. You will have a track record of leading complex industrial programmes, navigating ambiguity, influencing senior stakeholders and delivering results in challenging environments.

This is an exceptional opportunity to influence the future direction of a major industrial business during a period of significant investment and transformation.
