How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Food Technician - Secondary School - Newham

    Are you organised, practical and passionate about food preparation and education? Do you enjoy supporting students in a hands-on learning environment? A thriving secondary school in Newham is looking to appoint a reliable and enthusiastic Food Technician to join their Design & Technology department from September.

    This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in food preparation, catering, hospitality or a school setting who is looking to play a key role in supporting high-quality teaching and learning.

    The Role

    As a Food Technician, you will work closely with the Food Technology teachers to ensure practical lessons run smoothly. You will be responsible for preparing ingredients and equipment, maintaining a clean and safe learning environment, and supporting students during practical sessions where required.

    Key Responsibilities

    Prepare ingredients, equipment and resources for Food Technology lessons.
    Ensure classrooms and kitchens are clean, organised and ready for practical activities.
    Monitor and manage stock levels, placing orders when required.
    Maintain food hygiene standards and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
    Clean, maintain and safely store kitchen equipment and utensils.
    Support teachers during practical lessons where appropriate.
    Carry out routine equipment checks and report any faults.
    Assist with displays, demonstrations and departmental events.

    The Ideal Candidate

    Experience working in catering, hospitality, food preparation or a school environment.
    Knowledge of food hygiene and health and safety procedures.
    A Food Hygiene Certificate is desirable but not essential.
    Organised, reliable and able to work independently.
    Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
    A proactive approach with strong attention to detail.
    An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
