How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

A leading, family-run construction company with 40 years of experience delivering award-winning solutions across the UK is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor for their East Midlands division.

The Midlands division, established in Nottingham in 2015, has grown rapidly into a c.£60m-turnover business delivering projects up to £30m in value across education, healthcare, defence, blue light, custodial, and commercial sectors.

They work in partnership with clients including Nottingham Trent University, Loughborough University, Derbyshire County Council, and the NHS, and sit on multiple frameworks including Procure23 and the DfE Construction Framework.

Their sustainability credentials include a King's Award for Enterprise for Sustainable Development — and a commitment to social value across the communities they build in.

    The role

We're looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join the Midlands commercial team, managing the cost and contractual position of projects from pre-construction through to final account, across a diverse project portfolio.

    Key responsibilities

    * Prepare cost plans, budgets, and feasibility estimates at pre-construction stage

    * Measure quantities and prepare bills of quantities using recognised methods (NRM1/NRM2)

    * Procure subcontract packages — tendering, negotiation, and subcontract preparation

    * Prepare and agree interim valuations and payment applications

    * Price, negotiate, and agree variations with clients and subcontractors

    * Manage cost value reconciliation (CVR) and report on project financial performance

    * Support extension of time and loss and expense claims where required

    * Negotiate and agree final accounts with clients and subcontractors

    * Work closely with site management, design, and planning teams to ensure commercial and contractual risk is understood and managed throughout the project lifecycle

    * Support the bid team with commercial input on tenders and framework submissions where required

    Who we're looking for

    Experience and qualifications

    * Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within a main contractor environment

    * Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)

    * MRICS chartership (or working towards) desirable

    * Experience with JCT and/or NEC forms of contract

    * Experience across education, healthcare, defence, or public sector frameworks is advantageous given project mix

    * Full UK driving licence, with willingness to travel to sites across the East and West Midlands

    Skills and behaviours

    * Strong commercial and contractual awareness, with sound judgement on risk

    * Confident negotiator, able to manage relationships with clients and subcontractors alike

    * Highly organised, with strong attention to detail and accuracy in reporting

    * Collaborative team player who works well across commercial, operational, and design functions

    * Aligns with values of integrity, openness, honesty, and respect

    What's in it for you

    * Competitive salary, dependent on experience

    * Car or car allowance

    * Contributory pension

    * Genuine career development within a growing, family-run business with a strong regional pipeline

    * The opportunity to work on award-winning, sustainable, and socially valuable projects across a genuinely diverse sector base
