How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Location: Liverpool (Office-based with potential hybrid working, depending on experience)
Salary: Circa £70,000 (flexible depending on experience)
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Failure Analysis Consultant to join a highly respected technical consultancy specialising in complex engineering and metallurgical investigations. This is a consultancy-led position where you will provide expert technical advice to clients across a range of industries, conducting detailed failure investigations and delivering robust root cause analysis on critical engineering components.
This is an excellent opportunity for a senior metallurgist or failure analysis specialist who enjoys solving complex engineering problems, producing expert reports, and working directly with clients on technically challenging cases.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Lead complex failure investigations involving metallic components and engineering systems.
    • Conduct detailed root cause analysis (RCA) using metallurgical principles and failure analysis methodologies.
    • Perform laboratory examinations, material assessments and fracture investigations.
    • Carry out site inspections and witness testing where required.
    • Produce high-quality technical reports, clearly communicating findings and recommendations to clients.
    • Provide expert technical consultancy and advice throughout investigations.
    • Support clients with preventative recommendations to minimise future failures.
    • Present findings to clients and, where required, provide expert witness testimony in legal or arbitration proceedings.
    • Contribute to business development activities and maintain strong client relationships.

What our client is looking for
    • An experienced metallurgist or materials engineer with a proven track record in forensic engineering, failure analysis, and root cause investigations.
    • Experience conducting metallurgical failure investigations.
    • Demonstrable expertise in Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
    • Strong understanding of fracture mechanics, corrosion, fatigue, wear mechanisms and material degradation.
    • Experience interpreting laboratory test results and metallurgical examinations.
    • Ability to produce detailed technical reports for a variety of audiences.
    • Excellent communication skills with the confidence to interact directly with clients.
    • Commercial awareness and experience working within a consultancy or client-facing environment would be highly advantageous.
    • Experience acting as an expert witness or supporting legal investigations.
