How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Senior / Principal Mechanical Engineer - Water & Wastewater Infrastructure

    A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Senior or Principal Mechanical Engineer to join a leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancy delivering major water and wastewater infrastructure projects across the UK.

    This role offers the chance to work on high-profile programmes for some of the UK's largest water authorities, delivering innovative engineering solutions from concept through to construction. You'll join an experienced multidisciplinary team where you'll play a key role in technical delivery, project leadership and mentoring junior engineers while developing your own career.

    The Role

    As a Senior / Principal Mechanical Engineer, you'll lead the delivery of mechanical design packages on complex multidisciplinary projects while supporting project managers, clients and engineering teams throughout the project lifecycle.

    Key responsibilities include:

    Leading or coordinating mechanical engineering design for major water and wastewater infrastructure projects.

    Producing and reviewing high-quality engineering deliverables including calculations, reports, specifications, drawings and scopes of work.

    Delivering mechanical engineering solutions for pumping stations, water treatment and wastewater treatment facilities.

    Managing technical delivery to programme, budget and quality requirements.

    Working closely with multidisciplinary design teams to deliver integrated engineering solutions.

    Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers.

    Supporting project bids, tenders and technical proposals.

    Ensuring compliance with relevant UK engineering standards, legislation and industry best practice.

    Working independently while collaborating with clients and internal project teams.

    About You

    The successful candidate will have:

    Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

    Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status, or working towards professional registration.

    Experience delivering mechanical engineering design within a consultancy or engineering environment.

    Strong experience within the UK Water, Wastewater or Utilities sector (preferred).

    Practical knowledge of mechanical equipment including:

    Pumps

    Blowers

    Screens

    Chemical dosing systems

    Good understanding of mechanical design for water and wastewater treatment processes.

    Knowledge of UK engineering standards, CDM Regulations, DSEAR and industry best practice.

    Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering projects.

    Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

    Experience using relevant mechanical engineering design and analytical software.

    A proactive, collaborative approach with the ability to mentor and support developing engineers.
