How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

English Graduates - Graduate Teaching Assistant

    Richmond | September 2026 Start

Are you an English Graduate looking to gain meaningful, hands-on experience in education before progressing into a career in teaching, publishing, journalism, communications, or other language and literacy-based professions?

We are currently recruiting English Graduates for Graduate Teaching Assistant opportunities within supportive and high-performing secondary schools across Richmond and the wider South West London area. These long-term roles provide an excellent platform to build practical experience working with young people while developing a deeper understanding of literacy development, learning, and classroom practice.

As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting students both in and out of the classroom, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full academic potential. Schools are particularly keen to engage English Graduates due to their strong communication skills, subject knowledge, and ability to support reading, writing, and comprehension development.

    The Role

    Full-time Graduate Teaching Assistant position
Based in well-established secondary schools across Richmond
Supporting students across Key Stages 3-5
Providing 1:1 support and small group interventions
Assisting teachers with lesson delivery and classroom management
Supporting students with additional learning needs (SEND) where required
    September 2026 start

    The Ideal Candidate

A degree in English or a closely related subject
    Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Genuine interest in education, literacy, and young people's development
Ability to build positive and consistent relationships with students
Proactive, reliable, and professional approach to supporting learning

    Why This Role?

For English Graduates, school-based experience offers invaluable insight into how students develop reading, writing, and analytical skills within structured educational environments. This experience is highly valued by teacher training programmes and future employers across education, publishing, journalism, communications, and related fields.

Working as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in Richmond will allow you to apply your subject knowledge in a practical setting, while developing key skills in communication, behaviour support, intervention strategies, and student engagement.

Whether your ambition is to become a teacher, pursue postgraduate study, or enter a language-based profession, this Graduate Teaching Assistant role provides an excellent foundation for your career journey.
