How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Location: Bournemouth, Dorset
    Salary: Flexible, Dependent on Experience

An established, family-run garden centre is looking for an Outdoor Plants Supervisor to take ownership of its outdoor plant area and support the wider team at its Christchurch site.

This is a great opportunity for someone with strong plant knowledge who enjoys working outdoors, advising customers and maintaining high horticultural standards. You'll play a key role in ensuring plants are healthy, well-presented and that customers receive expert advice and inspiration for their gardens.

The role would suit an experienced Plant Area Assistant, Supervisor or horticultural professional looking to take the next step in their career within a successful garden retail environment, with the opportunity to develop into more senior roles.

    The Role

    You'll be responsible for:

Taking ownership of the outdoor plant area, maintaining excellent standards of plant health and presentation.
Providing expert customer advice on plant selection, care and aftercare.
Creating attractive seasonal displays to support sales.
Supporting and guiding the plant team, acting as deputy to the Department Manager when required.
Managing plant deliveries, stock levels, rotation and general department standards.
Supporting ordering and wider department responsibilities as your knowledge develops.
Stepping into Duty Manager and Key Holder responsibilities when required.

    About You

    We're looking for someone who:

Has strong outdoor plant knowledge and a genuine passion for horticulture.
Has experience working within a garden centre, nursery or horticultural retail environment.
Is confident advising customers and sharing plant knowledge.
Takes pride in plant quality, presentation and customer experience.
Has supervisory experience or is ready to take the next step.
Is reliable, hands-on and enjoys being part of a close-knit team.

    Working Hours

    Permanent, full-time position.
    39 hours per week.
    Alternate weekend working required.

    Why Apply?

Join a respected, family-owned garden centre with a long horticultural heritage.
Take ownership of a key plant department.
Work in a varied role where your horticultural knowledge is valued.
Opportunity to progress into Department Manager, Duty Manager and wider leadership roles.
Supportive team environment with excellent staff benefits.

If you're passionate about plants and enjoy combining horticulture, customer service and retail, we'd love to hear from you. Call our office and ask for Leo on (phone number removed) or email (url removed)
