How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

You'll be involved in projects ranging from minor refurbishment works through to major capital schemes of up to £5 million, covering schools, commercial buildings, leisure facilities, residential properties and historic or listed buildings.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Prepare structural calculations, reports, feasibility studies and technical specifications.

    * Design structures in reinforced concrete, structural steel, timber and masonry.

    * Undertake structural inspections, condition surveys and defect investigations.

    * Assess structural stability, subsidence and building defects, providing practical engineering solutions.

    * Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary design teams.

    * Review and manage the work of external consultants.

    * Provide technical advice throughout the design and construction process.

    * Support project delivery from feasibility through to completion.

    * Manage structural maintenance, demolition and remediation projects where required.

    * Ensure compliance with Building Regulations, British Standards and current industry guidance.

    About You

You'll be an experienced Structural Engineer with strong technical knowledge, excellent problem-solving skills and the confidence to lead projects, manage design teams and work closely with clients, consultants and stakeholders.

    * Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).

    * Chartered Engineer (CEng, MIStructE or MICE) preferred, but not essential.

    Experience & Skills

    * Significant post-qualification experience in structural design.

    * Experience designing structures in steel, reinforced concrete, timber and masonry.

    * Strong knowledge of refurbishment, alterations and existing buildings.

    * Experience undertaking structural surveys, inspections and condition assessments.

    * Ability to lead multidisciplinary design teams and manage multiple projects.

    * Good communication and stakeholder management skills.

    * Experience using structural design software such as Tekla Tedds, AutoCAD or similar.

    * Full UK driving licence
