How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Are you an Engineer with a background in Controls, Electrical or Automation looking to move into a technically focused commercial role? Or are you already working within proposals, estimating or tendering and looking for your next challenge?

We're recruiting on behalf of an established engineering and technology organisation that delivers advanced control, automation and digital solutions across a range of highly regulated industries.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative engineering team where you'll play a key role in developing high-quality technical and commercial proposals for complex engineering projects. You'll work closely with engineering, sales and supply chain teams to produce competitive bids while contributing to innovative technical solutions.

With hybrid working, flexible hours and excellent long-term career prospects, this role offers an ideal balance of technical challenge and work-life flexibility.

    The Role

As a Proposals Engineer, you'll be responsible for developing accurate, compliant and commercially competitive proposals from initial enquiry through to tender submission. You'll analyse customer requirements, prepare technical solutions and cost estimates, and support the full bid process while working closely with internal stakeholders.

    Key Responsibilities

Analyse customer requirements and develop cost-effective technical solutions.

Prepare high-quality technical and commercial tender submissions.

Produce conceptual designs including control systems, PLC/SCADA architectures, networks and infrastructure.

Develop accurate cost estimates, Bills of Materials (BoMs) and engineering hour estimates.

Work closely with engineering, sales and supply chain teams throughout the tender process.

Support tender reviews, risk assessments and internal bid meetings.

Manage multiple proposals simultaneously while meeting submission deadlines.

Contribute to the continuous improvement of proposal and estimating processes.

    What We're Looking For

Background in Controls, Electrical, Automation or Safety Systems Engineering.

Experience within proposals, estimating, tendering or technical sales is advantageous.

Good understanding of the engineering project lifecycle.

Experience interpreting technical specifications and defining project scope.

Knowledge of PLC hardware, control panels and automation system architecture.

Commercial awareness with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent written communication and technical documentation skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively across departments.

Degree, HND or equivalent qualification in Electrical, Control, Automation or a related engineering discipline.

    Desirable Experience

Functional Safety knowledge including SIL, ESD or Fire & Gas systems.

Experience producing Bills of Materials and engineering cost estimates.

Previous experience within industrial automation, process control or systems integration.

Experience working within highly regulated industries.

    What's On Offer

Salary up to £45,000, depending on experience.

Hybrid working (3 days office / 2 days remote).

Flexible working hours with an early finish on Fridays.

25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, with the option to buy or sell leave.

    Private medical insurance.

    Life assurance.

    Company pension scheme.

    Professional membership support.

Employee wellbeing programme including GP access and Employee Assistance Programme.

    Enhanced family-friendly policies.

Stable, long-term career with an innovative and growing engineering business.
