A welcoming primary school in Selly Oak is seeking a committed SEND Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated SEN Hub from September 2026. This role involves supporting pupils with Autism, non-verbal communication needs and SEMH, helping them access learning in a safe, structured and nurturing environment.
This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a supportive and experienced team, with the opportunity to secure a permanent position.
The Role
Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support within the school's SEN Hub
Support pupils with Autism (including non-verbal pupils) and SEMH needs
Use visual strategies, PECS, Makaton and communication aids where appropriate
Promote emotional regulation, independence and positive behaviour
Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and external professionals
Help create a calm, engaging and inclusive learning environment
What We're Looking For
Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification (or equivalent)
Previous experience supporting children with ASD, non-verbal communication needs and/or SEMH
Knowledge of PECS, Makaton or other communication strategies is desirable
A calm, patient and resilient approach
Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
