How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Title: Senior Planning Engineer
    Location: London (hybrid)
    Salary: £80-90,000 + package

    An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Planning Engineer to join a leading consultancy supporting the delivery of a major high-speed rail maintenance programme in London.

    This is an excellent opportunity to work on a high-profile rail project, playing a key role in the planning and successful delivery of critical maintenance and asset management activities that will support one of the UK's most important transport networks.

    Working within a collaborative and experienced project team, you will be responsible for developing, managing and monitoring project programmes while providing expert planning support throughout the project lifecycle.

    The Role

    As Senior Planning Engineer, you will be responsible for the development and management of detailed project programmes, ensuring that maintenance and infrastructure activities are effectively planned, monitored and controlled.
    You will work closely with project managers, commercial teams, engineers and client stakeholders, providing accurate programme reporting, identifying risks and opportunities, and supporting project delivery through robust planning processes.

    This is a hybrid role, offering a combination of office, project and remote working.

    Key Responsibilities

    Develop, maintain and manage detailed project programmes using Primavera P6.
    Support the planning and delivery of rail maintenance and infrastructure activities.
    Monitor project performance against programme and identify risks, delays and opportunities.
    Produce regular progress reports, programme updates and planning dashboards.
    Support project teams with programme recovery and mitigation strategies where required.
    Carry out programme analysis and critical path assessments.
    Work closely with commercial teams to assess programme impacts relating to change and compensation events.
    Attend client, project and stakeholder meetings, providing planning expertise and programme advice.
    Ensure planning processes comply with project and contractual requirements.About You

    We're seeking a highly capable planner with a strong rail background and a passion for delivering complex infrastructure programmes.

    You will have:

    Proven experience as a Planning Engineer or Senior Planning Engineer within the rail industry.
    Strong experience working on rail maintenance, renewals or asset management projects.
    Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6.
    Experience working under NEC contracts, including an understanding of programme requirements and compensation events.
    Strong knowledge of project planning, scheduling and programme management principles.
    Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills.
    The ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
    A proactive and solutions-focused approach to planning and project delivery.
