How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    The Opportunity

    Are you a capable, adaptable and inquisitive Software Engineer looking to work on cutting-edge defence technology?

    We are looking for a number of Software Engineers to join a team developing Maritime capabilities for the next generation of advanced defence systems.

    This is a hands-on role where you will gain a deep technical understanding of existing defence architectures while supporting the design, development and evolution of future products. You'll be involved in all aspects of the software development lifecycle, working alongside talented engineers to deliver innovative solutions for complex real-world challenges.

    This is an exciting opportunity to develop software used within some of the most advanced defence systems in the world, contributing to projects that have a genuine impact.

    What You'll Be Doing

    Developing and enhancing Maritime software
    Supporting the continued evolution of current and future architectures
    Participating in software design, development, integration and testing activities
    Working within structured engineering and design processes
    Solving complex technical challenges in a highly regulated environment
    Collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout the product lifecycle
    Contributing innovative ideas and approaches to software development

    What We're Looking For

    Essential

    A solid background in Software Engineering
    Experience with Ada or C++
    Experience working with formal design processes such as MASCOT, UML, or similar methodologies
    Experience using design and modelling tools such as Rhapsody
    A passion for software engineering and problem solving
    Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to innovate and solve complex software challenges

    Desirable

    Ada programming experience
    Experience with MATLAB/Simulink toolchains
    A Maths or Physics background
    Experience developing software within safety-critical or regulated industries such as Defence, Aerospace, Rail, Nuclear or Medical
    Embedded Linux development experience
    An interest in team leadership, task allocation or project tracking
