How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Machine Operator

    Purpose of the Role
    Barker Ross is recruiting for an experienced Machine Setter/Operator to join a fast-paced food manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating and maintaining production machinery to ensure efficient, safe and high-quality production.
    This role requires strong technical knowledge, problem-solving skills and attention to detail. You will work closely with the Shift Leader and Engineering team to minimise downtime and maximise production efficiency.

    Shift - 5am-1pm Mon-Fri
    pay rate is £15.56 per hour

    Key Responsibilities
    Machine Operation
    · Set up, operate and monitor production machinery to ensure efficient performance.
    · Prepare machinery for planned production changeovers.
    · Adjust machine settings for different production runs.
    · Record production data and machine performance.
    · Escalate technical or engineering issues in line with company procedures.

    Maintenance & Troubleshooting
    · Identify and resolve minor mechanical faults.
    · Carry out routine maintenance including cleaning, lubrication and machine resets.
    · Perform regular equipment checks to ensure optimal performance.
    · Complete maintenance handover documentation accurately.
    · Escalate major breakdowns to the Engineering team.

    General Duties
    · Work collaboratively with Production, Engineering and Shift Leaders.
    · Provide support and cover for colleagues when required.
    · Carry out any other reasonable duties requested by management.

    Skills & Experience
    · Previous experience within a food manufacturing or production environment.
    · Experience operating and maintaining production machinery.
    · Basic mechanical and fault-finding skills.
    · Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
    · Excellent problem-solving abilities.
    · Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    · Flexible, reliable and self-motivated.
    · Comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
    · Good verbal and written communication skills.
    · IOSH certification is desirable (training can be provided).
    · Follow all Health & Safety and food hygiene procedures.
