How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Head of Pre-Construction | Lead Major Power Infrastructure Projects
    £95,000 (DOE) + Company Car/Allowance
Drive Work-Winning Excellence Across the UK's Energy Infrastructure Sector

Are you an experienced Head of Pre-Construction, Pre-Construction Manager or Estimating Manager ready to take the next step in your career? Would you like to join a sector experiencing one of the largest investment programmes ever seen across UK infrastructure?

If so, this could be the opportunity you've been waiting for.

I am currently headhunting for a Head of Pre-Construction to join a leading contractor as they continue to expand their presence across the UK's Transmission and Distribution sector. You'll play a key role in securing major projects spanning overhead lines, substations and battery energy storage systems, helping to shape the future of the UK's energy infrastructure.

This is an outstanding opportunity to take ownership of a growing pre-construction function where you will shape strategy, develop talented teams and play a pivotal role in securing some of the UK's most significant power infrastructure projects.

If you thrive on leading successful bid teams, influencing key stakeholders and driving continuous improvement, this Head of Pre-Construction opportunity could be your next career move.

    About the Company

My client is a contractor operating within the UK's power and energy infrastructure sector, and looking to expand into delivering major transmission and distribution projects for some of the country's most recognised utility providers. With a strong reputation for quality, innovation and collaboration, they continue to invest in their people while delivering projects that support the UK's transition to a more sustainable energy network.

    What You Will Be Doing

As Head of Pre-Construction, you will lead the Pre-Construction function, creating an engaged, collaborative and high-performing culture focused on delivering exceptional bids, accurate estimates and outstanding customer satisfaction.

    You will be responsible for:

Leading and developing the Pre-Construction and Energy Estimating teams, creating a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
Assessing and prioritising bidding opportunities based on historical performance, profitability, win rates and strategic objectives.
Managing the overall bid pipeline to ensure business plan order targets are achieved, including MS Dynamics management and KPI reporting.
Working closely with Regional Managing Directors to develop client engagement strategies, stakeholder mapping and account growth plans.
Building and maintaining relationships with key clients including National Grid, SSE, Scottish Power, UK Power Networks and other major utility organisations.
Forming and leading bid teams to pre-qualify, prepare and deliver high-quality tender submissions.
Reviewing technical and commercial submissions to ensure bids are competitive, commercially robust and technically compliant.
Chairing tender settlement meetings and contributing to innovative technical solutions and delivery methodologies.
Supporting the development of work-winning capability across the wider business.
Championing Health & Safety, sustainability initiatives and ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures and industry regulations.
Embedding and promoting company values throughout the Pre-Construction function.
    What You'll Bring

To be successful as Head of Pre-Construction, you will ideally have:

Proven experience leading successful bids for complex multi-million-pound infrastructure including highways and rail or energy projects
Strong leadership experience managing high-performing pre-construction, estimating or bid management teams.
A technical, engineering or estimating background is highly desirable.
A relevant professional qualification would be advantageous.
Excellent commercial, financial and strategic business acumen.
Experience working with major utility providers, infrastructure clients or joint venture partners.
Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence senior decision-makers.
    Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
A customer-focused approach with a clear understanding of successful work-winning strategies.
A passion for continuous improvement and developing people.
    Salary and Benefits

Salary circa £95,000 per annum, dependent on experience.
    Company car or car allowance.
    Annual bonus scheme.
    Competitive pension.
    Generous annual leave entitlement.
    Comprehensive benefits package.
Flexible benefits and additional employee perks.
    Why Apply?

This is an excellent opportunity to join an established and growing organisation where you will influence business strategy, lead an experienced team and contribute to securing nationally significant energy infrastructure projects.
You'll benefit from genuine career progression opportunities, exposure to major UK infrastructure programmes and the chance to make a lasting impact within a respected business.

Location: Flexible with travel as required.

    Working Pattern: Full-time, permanent.
