How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Denham

Design it. Develop it. Engineer it to save lives.

Step into a role where world-class mechanical engineering protects those who protect us. As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer within our Mechanical Engineering team at Denham, you'll lead the design and development of safety-critical aerospace systems that perform in the most demanding environments. From initial concept through to production and in-service support, your expertise will help deliver innovative engineering solutions that make a real difference.

At Martin-Baker, the work we do matters. We design, manufacture and support life-saving equipment used by aircrew around the world. Our products operate in demanding environments, where quality, reliability and attention to detail are critical.

We're proud of our long history in aerospace and defence while remaining firmly focused on the future. Joining Martin-Baker means becoming part of a business with a clear purpose, exceptional engineering capability and a long-term commitment to its people, products and customers.

Whether you work in engineering, operations, commercial, finance, supply chain or support functions, your contribution helps deliver equipment that protects lives. It is challenging work, but it is also meaningful, and with over 7,800 lives saved, it gives our people the opportunity to be part of something with real impact.

    The Opportunity

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll play a leading role in developing robust, compliant and commercially viable mechanical designs across the full product lifecycle. Working within cross-functional Integrated Product Teams, you'll collaborate with systems, electronics, manufacturing and project teams to deliver innovative engineering solutions that meet customer, regulatory and business requirements.

Alongside technical delivery, you'll provide guidance and mentoring to junior engineers, contribute to design reviews and help drive continuous improvement across products and engineering processes.

This is an excellent opportunity to work on complex aerospace programmes where your technical expertise will directly influence products that save lives.

    What You'll Do

    * Lead the design and development of mechanical engineering solutions from concept through qualification, production and in-service support.

    * Produce and approve high-quality engineering drawings, 3D CAD models and technical documentation.

    * Develop engineering specifications from customer, regulatory and programme requirements.

    * Carry out structural and performance calculations using hand calculations, spreadsheets and finite element analysis (FEA).

    * Produce engineering documentation including BOMs, DFMEAs, stress reports, tolerance analyses and technical files.

    * Participate in design reviews, trade studies and engineering investigations to identify optimum technical solutions.

    * Support product trials, installations, customer visits and engineering reviews.

    * Conduct clearance, retrofit and interchangeability assessments to support product development.

    * Identify technical risks and drive improvements to product performance, manufacturability and quality.

    * Mentor and support junior engineers, sharing technical knowledge and best practice.

    What We're Looking For

    * Degree (2:1 or above) in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent experience.

    * Significant experience in mechanical design within aerospace, defence or another highly regulated engineering environment.

    * Strong experience using 3D CAD software, ideally Siemens NX.

    * Excellent understanding of engineering drawings, GD&T and mechanical design principles.

    * Experience of structural and performance calculations, including FEA.

    * Strong knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes and Design for Manufacture & Assembly (DfMA).

    * Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with sound engineering judgement.

    * Strong communication skills with the ability to produce and present technical information.

    * Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.

    * Chartered Engineer (CEng), or working towards professional registration (desirable).

    * Experience with motion simulation tools such as NX Motion or ADAMS (desirable).

    * Knowledge of aerospace or defence standards including MIL-STD or Def Stan (desirable).

    * Experience supporting CE certification activities (desirable).

    * Share and demonstrate the Martin-Baker values.

    Life Assurance.

    Lunchtime finish on a Friday.

    Personalised training and development plan.
