How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Mechanical Design Engineer – Nuclear Projects

Location: North West England (Hybrid Working Available)
Salary: Competitive + Excellent Benefits + Career Development

    Mechanical Design Engineer

Are you a talented Mechanical Design Engineer looking to take your career to the next level? This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing engineering consultancy delivering innovative solutions across some of the UK’s most complex and technically challenging projects.

Working within the nuclear sector, you’ll become part of a collaborative engineering team supporting major programmes from concept design through to detailed engineering and project delivery. Whether you already have experience in nuclear or are looking to transition from another highly regulated industry, you’ll be supported with ongoing training, professional development, and genuine opportunities for career progression.

This is more than just a design role—it’s an opportunity to develop your technical expertise, work alongside experienced engineers, and build a long-term career within a business that invests in its people.

    The Role

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will:

    * Produce high-quality mechanical designs for a range of complex engineering projects.

    * Develop 3D models, detailed engineering drawings, and manufacturing documentation.

    * Prepare design calculations, technical specifications, reports, and engineering documentation.

    * Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver practical and innovative design solutions.

    * Participate in design reviews, hazard studies, and technical workshops.

    * Ensure designs comply with industry standards, client specifications, and regulatory requirements.

    * Support projects throughout the design lifecycle, from concept and feasibility studies through to detailed design and implementation.

    * Liaise with clients, suppliers, and project teams to ensure successful technical delivery.

    About You

We’re looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer with:

    * Experience in mechanical design within engineering, manufacturing, energy, process, or building services environments.

    * Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, or AutoCAD.

    * Strong understanding of engineering principles, materials, manufacturing processes, and mechanical systems.

    * The ability to produce detailed engineering drawings and technical documentation.

    * Excellent problem-solving skills and a methodical approach to engineering design.

    * Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.

    * A degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.

Experience within the nuclear sector is advantageous but not essential. We welcome applications from candidates working in industries such as defence, aerospace, energy, oil & gas, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, or heavy engineering who are looking to build a rewarding career in nuclear engineering.

    Why Join Us?

    * Work on nationally significant engineering projects within the growing nuclear sector.

    * Clear career progression with structured support towards Senior Mechanical Engineer, Lead Engineer, and Engineering Manager positions.

    * Ongoing professional development, mentoring, and training to expand your technical expertise.

    * Exposure to a wide variety of technically challenging design projects throughout the full engineering lifecycle.

    * Flexible and collaborative working environment that encourages innovation and continuous learning.

    * Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.

    Apply Today

If you’re an ambitious Mechanical Design Engineer looking for a role where you can develop your technical skills, work on complex engineering challenges, and build a long-term career within the nuclear industry, we’d love to hear from you.
