How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Are you a resilient, empathetic, and driven individual who wants to make a lasting impact on the lives of secondary school students? Do you have the unique ability to look past challenging behaviour to understand the root cause?

We are seeking a dynamic and versatile Behaviour Mentor & Pastoral Pupil Support Worker to join a vibrant secondary school community in Blackpool starting in September 2026. This is a combined role that brings together behaviour intervention, pastoral care, and academic support. You will be the bridge between the classroom and a student's emotional well-being, working directly with young people who are disengaged, facing barriers to learning, or dealing with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges.

You do not need formal teaching qualifications. We value your emotional intelligence, your ability to command respect while building trust, and your passion for mentoring vulnerable teenagers.

    Key Responsibilities

Behaviour Mentoring: Work 1-to-1 or in small groups with students exhibiting challenging behaviour, helping them develop emotional regulation, accountability, and resilience.

Pastoral Care: Act as a dedicated point of contact for vulnerable pupils, providing a safe space to discuss personal challenges, anxiety, attendance issues, or home-life barriers.

Crisis De-escalation: Respond proactively to behavioural incidents across the school, using trauma-informed strategies to safely de-escalate situations and return students to learning.

Re-engagement Strategies: Design and implement tailored behaviour action plans alongside the school's Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) and pastoral team.

Liaison & Partnership: Maintain consistent communication with parents, carers, and external support agencies to ensure a unified approach to a student's welfare.

Classroom Integration: Support pupils during standard lessons to keep them focused, motivated, and achieving their academic milestones.

    What We Are Looking For

This combined role demands a special kind of professional. We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:

Resilience & Presence: A calm, firm, and fair approach to behaviour management. You must have "thick skin" and a naturally patient demeanour under pressure.

Transferable Experience: Backgrounds in youth work, sports coaching, residential care, ex-military instruction, or youth justice are highly valued.

Relationship Building: An exceptional ability to engage and build rapport with disengaged or untrusting secondary school pupils.

Understanding of SEMH & Trauma: A basic understanding (or a strong desire to learn) of trauma-informed practice, ADHD, ASC, and adolescent mental health..

    What We Offer

The Ultimate Foot in the Door: An excellent launchpad for anyone aspiring to go into educational psychology, counselling, social work, or specialised teaching.

Comprehensive Professional Development: Access to specialised CPD training, including Team Teach (positive behaviour management), Safeguarding Level 2, and trauma-informed practices.

Sensible Work-Life Balance: Family-friendly daytime hours (Monday to Friday) aligned perfectly with school term times, giving you weekends, evenings, and school holidays free.

A Supportive Environment: You will work within a highly collaborative, passionate pastoral team that values peer support and regular debriefs.

    How to Apply

If you have the grit, empathy, and dedication required to guide Blackpool's young people through their secondary school journey from September 2026, we want to hear from you.

To Apply: Please submit your current CV along with a short statement highlighting your relevant experience in mentoring, behaviour management, or youth support
