How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Senior / Principal Civil Engineer - Rivers & Coastal

    Location: Cambridge

    The Opportunity

    Advance TRS is partnering with a leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancy seeking a Senior or Principal Civil Engineer to join its expanding Rivers & Coastal team.

    This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in delivering major flood risk and river engineering projects across the UK, helping to protect communities, critical infrastructure and the natural environment. The successful candidate will work on technically challenging schemes from feasibility through to detailed design and construction, collaborating with a broad range of technical specialists.

    The role offers significant responsibility, exposure to high-profile infrastructure projects and the opportunity to mentor junior engineers while contributing to the continued growth of an established team.

    The Role

    Responsibilities will include:

    Leading the design and delivery of river and coastal engineering projects.
    Producing technical reports, calculations, drawings and specifications.
    Supporting projects throughout the full lifecycle, from concept design through to construction.
    Coordinating multidisciplinary design teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.
    Managing technical quality through design reviews and QA processes.
    Providing technical support during construction, including responding to site queries and carrying out inspections.
    Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, contractors and key project stakeholders.
    Supporting the development and mentoring of graduate and junior engineers.
    Assisting with project planning, programme delivery and resource management.Projects are likely to include:

    Flood risk management schemes
    River restoration and engineering
    Coastal protection projects
    Lowland drainage infrastructure
    Strategic infrastructure and environmental improvement programmes

    About You

    Applicants should possess:

    A degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline.
    Chartered Engineer status (or be working towards chartership).
    Proven experience delivering civil engineering projects within the rivers, coastal or flood risk sector.
    Strong technical design capabilities and sound engineering judgement.
    Experience coordinating multidisciplinary project teams.
    Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    Confidence working directly with clients and external stakeholders.
    The ability to work independently while supporting more junior team members.
    Experience with AutoCAD and construction-stage support would be advantageous, although not essential.
