How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    The role of Welding Inspector requires a keen eye for detail and a thorough understanding of welding techniques to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards in industrial and manufacturing settings. Based in Deeside, this permanent position is ideal for individuals passionate about maintaining high engineering standards.

    Description

    As the Welding Inspector you will be tasked with the following;

    Conduct welding inspections throughout manufacture, including pre-weld, in-process, and final inspections, ensuring compliance with approved WPS, engineering drawings, quality plans, and customer specifications.
    Verify welding activities are performed in accordance with applicable standards including ISO, BS EN, ASME, AWS, and customer-specific requirements where applicable.
    Perform detailed visual weld inspections in accordance with relevant acceptance criteria and inspection standards.
    Undertake dimensional inspections of fabricated assemblies using calibrated measuring equipment to confirm compliance with engineering requirements and tolerances.
    Verify material traceability, ensuring parent materials, filler metals, consumables, and welding documentation are correctly identified and controlled throughout production.
    Review and approve welding documentation including Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR/WPQR), Welder Qualification Records (WQR/WPQ), and weld maps.
    Monitor welding parameters and process controls to ensure compliance with qualified procedures, including heat input, preheat, interpass temperatures, and consumable usage.
    Support and witness welding procedure qualification trials and welder qualification testing where required.
    Identify, document, and report welding discontinuities, defects, and non-conformances, including porosity, cracking, lack of fusion, incomplete penetration, undercut, overlap, and dimensional deviations.
    Raise Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and participate in corrective and preventive action activities to eliminate recurring quality issues.
    Assist with root cause investigations relating to welding failures, repair rates, customer complaints, and internal quality concerns.
    Liaise with NDT personnel to coordinate and review inspection activities including Visual Inspection (VT), Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI), Dye Penetrant Inspection (DPI/PT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT), and Radiographic Testing (RT) where applicable.
    Review and validate NDT reports, inspection records, and welding certification packages prior to product release.
    Conduct supplier and subcontractor welding inspections to verify compliance with contractual, regulatory, and quality requirements.
    Support supplier quality improvement initiatives through supplier audits, inspection reporting, and technical feedback.
    Participate in internal and external quality audits and provide technical support during customer and third-party inspections.
    Ensure inspection equipment, gauges, weld measuring tools, and calibration records are maintained in accordance with quality system requirements.
    Maintain comprehensive inspection records, weld history documentation, manufacturing data records, and quality dossiers.Profile

    A successful Welding Inspector should have:

    Proven experience as a Welding Inspector within a heavy engineering, fabrication, pressure equipment, or manufacturing environment.
    Recognised welding inspection qualification such as CSWIP 3.1/3.2, PCN, BGAS-CSWIP, AWS CWI, or equivalent.
    Extensive knowledge of welding processes.
    Strong understanding of weld metallurgy, heat-affected zones (HAZ), distortion control, and weld defect mechanisms.
    Working knowledge of welding standards and codes including BS EN ISO 5817, ISO 9606, ISO 15614, EN 1090, ASME IX, AWS D1.1, and customer-specific requirements.
    Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, fabrication specifications, weld symbols, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
    Experience in visual inspection techniques and a sound understanding of non-destructive testing methods.
    Familiarity with material certification requirements, traceability systems, and manufacturing record documentation.
    Experience working within ISO 9001:2015 certified Quality Management Systems.
    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to conduct root cause analysis and implement effective corrective actions.
    Excellent report-writing, documentation, and communication skills.
    Proficient in the use of inspection and measurement equipment, including weld gauges, verniers, micrometers, and calibrated inspection tools.
    Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple inspection activities while maintaining compliance and attention to detail.
