How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Surplus Stock Controller**
    📍 Temporary Contract | 20th July 2026 - 31st December 2026
    💷 £14.42 per hour
    🕗 Monday to Friday | 8:00am - 4:00pm
    📍 Carlisle (CA2 5TG)

    We are looking for an organised and detail-focused **Surplus Stock Controller** to join the pladis team in Carlisle on a temporary contract until 31st December 2026.

    This role will focus on managing surplus and imperfect products, maximising recovery value, and supporting waste reduction initiatives across the site. The successful candidate will work closely with internal teams and external partners to coordinate stock streams, reporting, and continuous improvement activities.

    ### Key Responsibilities

    * Managing the collection and sale of surplus and imperfect products.
    * Coordinating multiple waste streams, including cardboard, plastic, animal feed, reduce, reuse, and recycling initiatives.
    * Ensuring maximum return is achieved from surplus stock and waste materials.
    * Monitoring and reporting on waste stream progress and sales performance.
    * Producing weekly and monthly reports for key stakeholders.
    * Maintaining the Imperfect Product Dashboard and tracking stock volumes.
    * Supporting the UK Waste Specialist and Site Management Teams with data and analysis.
    * Building strong relationships with internal teams and external customers.
    * Identifying and escalating any risks or issues where required.
    * Occasional funded travel between pladis sites may be required.

    ###The Ideal Candidate

    * Previous experience in stock control, inventory, supply chain, logistics, manufacturing, or a similar coordination role.
    * Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
    * Confident working with data, reports, and dashboards.
    * Good Microsoft Excel skills and experience analysing information.
    * Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
    * Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
    * Experience within FMCG, food manufacturing, or waste management is desirable.
