How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Transport Planning Manager - Wakefield - £40,000 - £45,000

    The Role

    This Transport Planning Manager opportunity is with a leading retail business based in Wakefield, operating a large-scale, fast-paced transport operation where service, efficiency and customer satisfaction are at the heart of the business.

    The business is looking for an experienced Transport Planner who can confidently manage a busy transport desk, optimise fleet utilisation and react quickly to changing operational demands. You'll play a key role in ensuring deliveries are completed safely, efficiently and on time while working closely with operational teams to maintain exceptional service levels.

    Working as part of the wider Logistics distribution and supply chain function, you'll have the opportunity to influence transport performance and contribute towards the continuous improvement of a high-performing operation.

    Key Responsibilities

    Producing efficient daily transport plans to maximise fleet utilisation and operational performance
    Monitoring live transport activity and responding quickly to operational challenges and customer requirements
    Working closely with drivers, warehouse teams and the wider Logistics distribution and supply chain operation to ensure seamless service delivery
    Managing route planning to optimise cost, efficiency and customer satisfaction
    Monitoring transport KPIs and identifying opportunities to improve operational performance
    Ensuring compliance with drivers' hours, Working Time Directive and transport legislation
    Maintaining accurate transport records, planning systems and operational documentation
    Supporting Continuous Improvement initiatives across the transport function to enhance efficiency and service delivery

    Key Experience

    Previous experience operating as a Transport Planning Manager within a fast-paced retail, distribution or logistics environment
    Strong understanding of route planning, fleet utilisation and transport legislation
    Experience managing live transport operations and responding to changing priorities
    Excellent communication and organisational skills with the ability to work under pressure
    Experience working within a Logistics distribution and supply chain environment
    Strong knowledge of Transport Management Systems (TMS) and transport planning software
    Commercial awareness with the ability to balance operational efficiency and customer service
    A proactive, solutions-focused approach with a passion for delivering operational excellence
