How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    The Role

Our client, a well-established food manufacturing business, is looking for a QA Technician to join its Quality team in Wigan. This is an on-site Quality Assurance role working rotating shifts and supporting the QA Supervisor across the manufacturing operation.

As QA Technician, you will help ensure products meet approved customer specifications, food safety standards and legal requirements. You will work closely with production and other departments to maintain quality, food safety, hygiene and compliance, while supporting a positive culture of continuous improvement.

    What you will do

You will complete and maintain accurate quality records, carry out the QA Matrix within agreed timescales and ensure quality and food safety systems are followed and fully documented. You will help maintain compliance with HACCP, BRC Global Food Safety standards, FSA requirements and internal procedures.

The QA Technician will support root-cause analysis and corrective action for customer complaints and non-conforming products. This includes monitoring trends, helping close investigations on time and communicating actions to the relevant teams.

You will build effective relationships with colleagues, customers and external contacts; prepare for and take part in customer visits and technical audits; attend team and quality meetings; and contribute to improvements in product quality, food safety, hygiene, waste reduction and departmental performance.

    What you will need

You will have proven experience in a Quality Assurance or QA environment, ideally within food manufacturing, together with practical knowledge of HACCP and food safety. A working knowledge of BRC standards, good computer skills and a strong eye for detail are essential.

You must be comfortable working independently and as part of a team, communicating clearly across departments and working the rotating shift pattern. Experience using an ERP system or a similar database would be useful. A proactive, flexible approach and the confidence to raise quality or food safety concerns are also important.

    Shift pattern

This QA Technician position works a rotating three-shift pattern. Shift 1 is 6:00am–2:30pm Monday to Thursday and 6:00am–1:30pm Friday. Shift 2 is 8:00am–4:30pm Monday to Thursday and 7:30am–3:00pm Friday. Shift 3 is 11:30am–10:00pm Monday to Wednesday and 11:30am–9:00pm Thursday.

    How you will work

You will act with integrity and respect, take ownership of your work and follow through on commitments. You will support practical improvements, communicate positively through change and balance pace with quality. The role requires attendance at daily team huddles, one-to-ones, health and safety meetings, training sessions and relevant quality or project forums.

    Health, safety and food safety

You will follow all training, safe systems of work, risk assessments and PPE requirements; report hazards, near misses and incidents promptly; and keep your work area safe and tidy. You will complete mandatory health and safety training and take part in safety briefings when required.

The QA Technician must meet employee obligations under the Food Safety Act 1990 and subsequent food safety legislation. You will follow site food safety procedures, maintain high hygiene standards and report any food safety, quality or legality concerns promptly to the appropriate Technical or Quality Manager.

    Right to work

Applicants must be able to demonstrate their right to work in the UK. Any requirement for visa sponsorship should be declared during the application process.

    Apply

If you are an experienced QA Technician with a background in Quality Assurance, HACCP, food safety and BRC standards, and you can work rotating shifts in Wigan, please apply with your CV
