How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

I am currently recruiting on behalf of a leading civil engineering contractor who is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their Aberdeen team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially driven Quantity Surveyor to join an established business with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality civil engineering projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing the commercial performance of projects, supporting delivery teams, and ensuring projects are completed efficiently while achieving value for money.

Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for managing all financial aspects of projects from pre-contract through to completion, working closely with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.

    Key responsibilities will include:
    • Preparing tender and contract documentation, including bills of quantities and cash flow forecasts
    • Undertaking detailed cost analysis, reporting, and commercial reviews throughout the project lifecycle
    • Assisting with budget preparation, cost planning, and estimating activities
    • Managing project costs, valuations, final accounts, and payment processes
    • Identifying, analysing, and managing commercial risks
    • Supporting value engineering and cost control initiatives
    • Preparing and reviewing subcontractor packages and quotations
    • Providing support with contractual matters, claims, and variations
    • Producing detailed progress reports and maintaining accurate commercial records
    • Ensuring compliance with company procedures, management systems, and industry standards
    The ideal candidate will have:
    • Previous experience working within a construction or civil engineering environment
    • A strong understanding of the full project lifecycle from tender through to completion
    • Excellent commercial awareness and cost management skills
    • The ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively to deadlines
    • Strong communication and negotiation skills
    • A proactive approach with a focus on continuous improvement
    Desirable experience:
    • Previous experience working as a Quantity Surveyor or Estimator
    • Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards
    • Experience working with civil engineering contracts and commercial systems
This is a fantastic opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor looking to join a respected contractor where you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, develop your skills, and progress your career within a supportive and professional environment
