How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Health and Safety Advisor - £45,000 to £55,000 + Car/Allowance - Utilities Infrastructure - Scotland – Hybrid – ID: 11717

Do you want a role where you can influence operational teams, improve health and safety performance, and support the delivery of major water infrastructure projects across Scotland?

Principal People are working with a leading civil engineering and infrastructure contractor to recruit a Health and Safety Advisor to support projects across the Scottish Water framework. This is a hybrid role with regular travel to sites across Scotland, partnering closely with operational and project teams delivering essential water and wastewater infrastructure projects.

Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the safe delivery of projects by providing practical health and safety advice, ensuring compliance with company procedures and UK legislation, and helping to drive continuous improvement across the framework.

This is a highly visible, site-focused position that will suit someone who enjoys building relationships, influencing operational teams, and promoting a positive safety culture through collaboration rather than enforcement.

With a strong pipeline of secured work and long-term investment in the Scottish Water framework, this is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established contractor that offers genuine career development within the UK's infrastructure sector.

    What’s in it for you:

    Salary up to £55,000
Company Car / £5,000 Car Allowance + Mileage
Variable Pension Scheme up to 13%
28 Days Annual Leave + Bank Holidays (With option to buy more)
Private Medical (With option to add family)
    CPD, Development & Progression Support
Long-term secured work within the UK water and infrastructure sector
    What you will be doing:

Supporting the delivery of the HS&E strategy across the framework.
Providing practical HS&E advice and support to operational and site teams.
Reviewing Construction Phase Plans, Emergency Response Plans, RAMS and project documentation.
Conducting site inspections, HS&E reviews and environmental audits.
Supporting ISO 14001 compliance and environmental performance standards.
Investigating incidents and non-conformities, identifying root causes and supporting corrective actions.
Monitoring HS&E performance through KPIs and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
Delivering HS&E briefings, training and best practice guidance.
Supporting supply chain onboarding and ongoing HS&E performance monitoring.
Building strong relationships with clients, contractors and operational stakeholders.
    You will need:

NEBOSH Construction or General Certificate as a minimum.
Experience within construction, infrastructure, utilities or water sectors.
Strong understanding of HS&E legislation, management systems and risk management.
Confident communicator with the ability to engage operational teams and stakeholders
This is a strong opportunity for someone who wants to join a well-established contractor and play a visible role across major infrastructure projects with long-term career development opportunities.
