How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Overview

    We are seeking an experienced Sub Agent to join a major infrastructure scheme on HS2, based in Chipping Warden. This role will focus on highways and drainage packages, supporting the delivery of critical works on one of the UK’s largest civil engineering projects.

    Key Responsibilities

    Manage and supervise highways and drainage works on site, ensuring delivery to programme and budget

    Oversee site engineers and section engineers, providing technical guidance and leadership

    Ensure all works are delivered safely, in line with HSE standards and company procedures

    Coordinate earthworks, road construction, pavement, and drainage installations (including deep drainage, culverts, and surface water systems)

    Review and implement method statements, risk assessments, and ITPs

    Manage subcontractors and ensure performance aligns with project requirements

    Monitor progress and report to the Project Manager / Site Agent

    Ensure quality standards are met, including inspections, testing, and documentation

    Liaise with design teams and stakeholders to resolve any technical issues

    Support commercial teams with progress reporting, variations, and cost control

    Requirements

    Proven experience as a Sub Agent, Site Agent, or Section Engineer on major infrastructure projects

    Strong highways and drainage experience (essential)

    Background working on large-scale civils schemes (e.g. highways, rail, or major infrastructure projects such as HS2)

    Good understanding of NEC contracts

    SMSTS / CSCS qualification

    Strong leadership and communication skills

    Engineering qualification (HNC/HND/Degree in Civil Engineering or similar) preferred

    Desirable

    Previous experience on HS2 or similar major projects (e.g. highways frameworks, large civils JVs)

    Experience managing drainage packages including deep drainage and utilities
