How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Are you an Electrical Design Engineer with experience designing electrical control panels and machine control systems?

    SimWest Engineering Recruitment is recruiting for an established engineering business in Blackburn that designs and manufactures electrical control panels and control systems for automated machinery used across a range of industrial sectors.

    This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys producing detailed electrical designs, selecting control and automation components, and supporting projects from initial specification through to panel manufacture, machine build, testing and customer acceptance.

    The Opportunity

    As an Electrical Design Engineer, your primary focus will be the design of electrical control panels and associated machine control systems.

    You will produce electrical schematics, control panel layouts, general arrangement drawings, functional design specifications and supporting technical documentation for bespoke machinery and automation projects.

    Working closely with customers, suppliers, panel builders and internal engineering teams, you will ensure each control system is practical, compliant and designed to the required technical and machinery safety standards.

    Your responsibilities will include:

    * Designing electrical control panels and machine control systems

    * Producing electrical schematic diagrams using AutoCAD

    * Creating control panel layouts and general arrangement drawings

    * Developing designs from initial concept through to detailed manufacture

    * Producing functional design specifications and supporting documentation

    * Selecting and specifying electrical, control and automation components

    * Calculating and specifying control gear, inverter drives and motor sizes

    * Designing motor control, machine interface and safety circuits

    * Producing documentation to support purchasing, panel manufacture and machine wiring

    * Supporting control-panel build, electrical testing and machine commissioning

    * Reviewing electrical designs and resolving technical issues during manufacture

    * Ensuring designs comply with relevant machinery regulations and safety standards

    * Supporting risk assessments and legislative documentation

    * Liaising with customers, suppliers, electrical engineers and panel-building teams

    What you will need

    We are interested in candidates with experience as an Electrical Design Engineer, Control Panel Design Engineer, Controls Design Engineer, Electrical Controls Engineer, Automation Design Engineer or Electrical CAD Engineer.

    Essential experience:

    * Designing electrical control panels for industrial machinery or automation systems

    * Producing detailed electrical schematic diagrams

    * Designing machine control and motor control systems

    * Selecting electrical and automation components

    * Working knowledge of PLC-controlled machinery and drive systems

    * Understanding of control gear, inverter drives and motor sizing

    * Producing accurate electrical drawings and manufacturing documentation

    AutoCAD Electrical experience would be ideal. However, candidates who have used another electrical design package will also be considered, provided they are willing to transfer their skills to AutoCAD Electrical.

    Experience with Siemens, Allen-Bradley or Omron control systems would be beneficial but is not essential.

    A time-served electrical engineering background would also be advantageous, particularly if you have progressed from control-panel manufacture, machine wiring or electrical assembly into an electrical design position.

    What is on offer

    * Salary of £45,000 - £50,000 per year, depending on experience

    * Early finish at 11:00am every Friday

    * Healthcare package

    * Company pension scheme

    * Life assurance

    * Permanent, office-based position

    * Varied control-panel and machine-control projects

    * Involvement from initial design through to panel build, testing and customer acceptance

    * Continued exposure to PLC, drive, motor-control and machinery safety technologies

    The Blackburn location is commutable from Darwen, Accrington, Burnley, Preston, Chorley, Bolton, Bury, Rochdale, Nelson, Colne, Clitheroe, Leyland, Wigan and North Manchester.

    Apply with your latest CV to be considered. You do not need to match every desirable point, provided you have strong electrical design experience within control panels, machinery, automation or industrial control systems.

    All applications will be treated confidentially
