How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Contract Electrical Engineer

    Location: Hertfordshire / Cambridge Boards
    Contract: Contractor 4-6 months

    We're recruiting for an experienced Electrical Engineer to join a leading engineering team on a contract basis, supporting the design and development of innovative industrial and science equipment.

    The Role

    You'll be responsible for delivering electrical designs for new product development, ensuring compliance with UK, EU and US electrical safety standards, and supporting testing, commissioning and product build activities. Working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, you'll contribute to the development of complex mechatronic systems from concept through to delivery.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Design AC/DC power distribution and machine control systems.

    * Develop and test electrical designs and machinery safety circuits.

    * Produce and maintain electrical documentation and Bills of Materials.

    * Ensure compliance with relevant electrical safety, EMC and machinery directives.

    * Support product build, commissioning and validation activities.

    * Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams and external suppliers.

    Requirements

    * Degree or HND in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience).

    * Proven experience designing industrial electrical systems.

    * Strong knowledge of UK, EU and US (desirable) electrical regulations and standards.

    * Experience with electrical CAD software, ideally EPLAN.

    * Knowledge of EMC compliance, machine safety and industrial communications (RS232, RS485, USB, Ethernet).

    * Excellent communication skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

    Desirable

    * Experience within the life sciences or regulated manufacturing sector.

    * Servo motor control experience.

    * Knowledge of SAP, engineering change control and functional safety standards (EN (phone number removed), EN ISO 13849, EN 62061).
