How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Secondary School Teaching Assistant

    Location: Preston and surrounding areas
    Start Date: September 2026
    Job Type: Full-time, Long-Term & Temp-to-Perm Opportunities
    Pay: From £110 per day

    Spencer Clarke Group is recruiting Secondary School Teaching Assistants to support a range of secondary schools across Preston and the surrounding areas from September.

    We have a variety of long-term placements and temp-to-perm opportunities available, supporting students both in and out of the classroom. Roles may include working on a one-to-one basis, supporting small groups, assisting students with additional learning needs, or providing general classroom support across different subjects.

    While previous experience in a secondary school is preferred, we welcome applications from candidates with relevant experience in primary schools, SEND settings, youth work, coaching, residential care, or other roles supporting children and young people.

    The Role

    Support students with their learning and development across Key Stages 3 and 4.
    Work closely with teachers to deliver engaging lessons and maintain a positive learning environment.
    Provide one-to-one and small group support where required.
    Assist students with SEND, SEMH, behavioural or additional learning needs.
    Encourage student engagement, confidence and independence.

    Requirements

    Experience working with children or young people in an educational or related setting.
    Secondary school experience is desirable but not essential.
    Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
    A proactive and adaptable approach to supporting students.
    Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
