How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Location: North East England
    Contract: Minimum 6 Months (Potential Extension)
    Rate: £40.00 - £45.00 per hour (DOE)

    An established engineering business is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team on an initial 6-month contract. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a variety of bespoke engineering projects within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

    The Role

    As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for producing innovative and practical design solutions from concept through to manufacture. Working closely with project, production, and engineering teams, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality engineered products to customer specifications.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Produce detailed 3D models and manufacturing drawings using CAD software.

    * Design mechanical components, assemblies, and systems for bespoke engineering projects.

    * Support projects from concept through design, development, and manufacture.

    * Liaise with internal departments to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, and cost-effective.

    * Carry out design calculations, material selection, and engineering analysis where required.

    * Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

    * Ensure designs comply with relevant engineering standards and customer specifications.

    Requirements

    * Proven experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer within a manufacturing or engineering environment.

    * Strong 3D CAD skills (SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar).

    * Experience producing detailed manufacturing drawings.

    * Good understanding of fabrication, machining, and general manufacturing processes.

    * HNC/HND or Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (preferred).

    * Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative engineering team.
