How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Alstom is the UK & Ireland’s leading supplier of new trains and train services, and a leading signalling and rail infrastructure provider. Alstom have built, or are building, just under 40% of the UK mainline train fleet; as well as the entire fleets in service with London Underground and Dublin Luas.

We provide the widest range of smart solutions in the rail market, from innovative high-speed rolling stock, metros and trams to maintenance, modernisation, infrastructure and signalling.

Employing 6000 people, we design and build trains at Derby, the UK’s largest train factory; and operate major sites at Widnes, Crewe, Ilford and Plymouth, and 30 train services depots across the UK and Ireland.

    Your future role

Take on a new challenge and apply your commercial and strategic expertise in a new cutting-edge field. You will work alongside collaborative and driven teammates.
You'll lead the successful delivery of high-value projects and strategic customer contracts, making a significant impact on business growth and operational excellence. Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with teams across the business (project delivery teams, senior stakeholders, and customers), act as the key commercial interface to ensure project objectives are met, and drive profitability while mitigating risk—and much more."

    We’ll look to you for:

Leading the commercial management of high-value projects, ensuring alignment with company objectives.
Acting as the key commercial interface between customers, project delivery teams, and senior stakeholders.
Driving profitability while mitigating risks across projects valued up to £110 million.
Ensuring contractual, financial, and operational excellence throughout the project lifecycle.
Developing and maintaining strong, collaborative relationships with clients and partners.
Providing strategic advice and insights to support decision-making and business growth initiatives.
Negotiating and managing contracts to ensure compliance and favorable terms for the company.
Monitoring and reporting on project performance, identifying areas for improvement.
Leading and mentoring teams to foster a culture of leadership, resilience, and adaptability.
Continuously identifying opportunities to enhance processes and deliver value to customers.
    All about you:

We value passion and attitude over experience. That’s why we don’t expect you to have every single skill. Instead, we’ve listed some that we think will help you succeed and grow in this role:

Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Engineering, or related field.
Experience or understanding of commercial management in high-value projects, contract negotiation, and risk mitigation.
Knowledge of project management methodologies and financial performance tracking.
Familiarity with customer relationship management and stakeholder engagement.
Certification or communication skills such as excellent negotiation and influencing skills.
    Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
    Leadership and team management experience.
Resilience and adaptability in dynamic and fast-paced environments.
Strategic thinking with a focus on achieving long-term business objectives.
Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

    Things you’ll enjoy:

Join us on a life-long transformative journey – the rail industry is here to stay, so you can grow and develop new skills and experiences throughout your career.

25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, with the opportunity to buy or sell holiday
Option to enjoy a brand new electric or hybrid vehicle with our salary sacrifice scheme
A wide range of flexible benefits that you can tailor to suit your lifestyle You don’t need to be a train enthusiast to thrive with us. We guarantee that when you step onto one of our trains with your friends or family, you’ll be proud. If you’re up for the challenge, we’d love to hear from you
