How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Ad-hoc Learning Support Assistant - Barry | Primary Schools | September 2026 Start

    Are you an experienced Learning Support Assistant looking for flexible work in Barry and the surrounding Vale of Glamorgan?

    As an Ad-hoc Learning Support Assistant, you will have the opportunity to work across a range of welcoming Primary Schools throughout Barry, Penarth, Dinas Powys, Cowbridge, and Rhoose. This flexible role is ideal for those who have previously worked in schools and are looking to take a step back from a full-time position while continuing to make a positive impact in the classroom.

    Working as an Ad-hoc Learning Support Assistant gives you the freedom to choose the days and hours that suit your lifestyle, while building relationships with local schools. Many of our schools in Barry regularly request staff back, allowing you to create a reliable pool of schools where you feel comfortable and valued.

    As an Ad-hoc Learning Support Assistant, you will:

    Support pupils across EYFS, KS1 and KS2 within Primary Schools.
    Work alongside class teachers to provide engaging learning support.
    Assist children on a one-to-one basis and in small groups.
    Help create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
    Adapt quickly to different school settings across Barry and the wider Vale of Glamorgan.

    What We're Looking For

    Strong experience working within Primary Schools.
    An active Education Workforce Council (EWC) registration.
    A valid Enhanced DBS certificate (or willingness to obtain one)
    The ability to travel to schools in Barry, Penarth, Dinas Powys, Cowbridge and Rhoose.
