How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Senior Project Engineer / Engineering Lead

    Water & Wastewater

    £450pd - £650pd DOE (Outside IR35)

    Hybrid - 3 days in office

    Contract Length: 1-2 years

    Location: North West - commutable from Lancaster, Preston and surrounding areas

    Are you a technically strong Water or Wastewater Engineer with experience across treatment works, feasibility, design development and technical assurance looking for a long-term contract opportunity?

    Are you looking for a role where you can genuinely influence engineering solutions, challenge designs and support projects from early-stage development through to construction and commissioning?

    This is an excellent opportunity to support a major programme of water and wastewater projects across the North West. Opportunities are available at Senior Project Engineer through to Engineering Lead level, depending on experience.

    The successful candidate will have a strong technical background within water or wastewater and experience developing, reviewing or challenging engineering solutions rather than purely managing project delivery.

    The Role:

    * Support feasibility, scoping, optioneering and solution development
    * Review and challenge engineering designs and proposed solutions
    * Support projects from early-stage development through to construction and commissioning
    * Work with multidisciplinary civil, MEICA, EICA, process and hydraulic teams
    * Long-term contract, 1-2 years, £450pd - £650pd DOE

    The Person:

    * Strong technical background across water or wastewater engineering
    * Significant WWTW experience for the core wastewater opportunities
    * Experience in feasibility, design development, technical assurance or design review
    * Able to challenge solutions around buildability, efficiency, value and technical suitability
    * Background in civil, mechanical, electrical, MEICA, EICA, process or hydraulics
