How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Carrying out Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs), habitat surveys and ecological site walkovers
Identifying ecological constraints and opportunities across planning and development projects
Providing practical ecological advice to support project design and planning applications
Supporting the delivery of Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), including habitat creation, enhancement and long-term management
Assessing when specialist ecological surveys are required and coordinating external ecological consultants where necessary
Producing and reviewing technical ecological reports
Working alongside planners, engineers and project teams to develop practical, commercially balanced solutions
Visiting quarry, restoration and development sites as projects progress
Keeping up to date with ecological legislation, planning policy and industry best practiceWhat we're looking for
Previous experience working as an Ecological Consultant or in a similar ecology role
Experience undertaking PEAs and ecological habitat surveys
Good understanding of Biodiversity Net Gain and the statutory biodiversity metric
Knowledge of UKHab classification and ecological survey methodologies
Strong report writing and communication skills
Commercially aware with a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach
Full UK driving licenceWhat's in it for you?

Opportunity to work on a varied portfolio of planning, restoration and development projects
A balance of fieldwork, office-based work and stakeholder collaboration
Join a growing multidisciplinary consultancy where you'll work closely with planners, engineers and environmental specialists
Genuine opportunity to influence projects from concept through to delivery
Long-term career development within a growing environmental businessIf you're looking for a role where you can work on genuinely varied projects, broaden your experience and make a real impact, we'd love to hear from you. Apply today!
