How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    £27,051 - £28,599 (Pro-rata)

HOURS: 18.5 hours x 38 weeks (Term Time Only)

As the UK’s only specialist further education college dedicated to construction and the built environment, Leeds College of Building is an award-winning institution committed to excellence. We are always looking for exceptional staff to join our team and truly value our support staff, who play a crucial role in helping adult learners succeed and achieve their goals.

We are seeking a committed and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant to support adult students, whose attendance is often in the evening. You will provide support within both classroom-based and practical workshop environments.

In this role, you will provide tailored support to learners with a range of additional needs, enabling them to engage fully in both theoretical and practical construction activities while fostering a safe, inclusive environment where all learners can participate confidently and independently. You will support students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and other learning needs, using a variety of strategies to encourage participation, develop skills, and promote positive learning behaviours. You will also build professional relationships that help boost confidence, independence, and progression within the construction industry and beyond.

    The ideal candidate will:

Have experience of working with adults or diverse learners in an educational or support environment
Have a good understanding of SEND and/or additional learning needs
Be confident supporting learners in both classroom and practical workshop settings
Be able to adapt support strategies to suit hands-on vocational learning
Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Be able to work effectively under the direction of a tutor and on their own initiative
Maintain professional boundaries while being approachable and supportive
Hold 5 GCSEs at Grade 9-4/A*–C (or a Level 2 equivilent) including English Language and Maths
Have experience of supporting students with learning difficulties and disabilities (essential)
Ideally have experience within the further education (FE) sector (desirable)
This role is ideal for anyone looking to develop a career in education, inclusive learning, or social care, and for those passionate about supporting adults to gain skills and progress within the construction industry.

If you are committed to making a difference and enjoy working in a dynamic environment that combines classroom learning with practical skills training, we would love to hear from you.

In return, we offer a warm and welcoming college with an excellent benefits package that includes:

A well-respected pension scheme (West Yorkshire Pension Fund with an above average employer contribution)
Free parking at all our college sites (on a first come first served basis)
Family friendly policies and opportunities for flexible working
Superb opportunities for training and development
Discounted travel on public transport and a Cycle to work scheme
Discounts and offers at major High Street and Online retailers
Access to an Employee Assistance Programme.
So, if you’d like to make a difference and be part of a unique organisation that supports one of the largest and most exciting employment sectors in the UK, we’d love to hear from you.
