How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

The successful Section Engineer will play a key role in the technical delivery of highways projects, managing engineering activities across allocated sections of work including carriageway construction, surfacing, drainage, structures, waterproofing, expansion joints, parapets, vehicle restraint systems (VRS) and associated civils works. This is an excellent opportunity for a Section Engineer with highways experience to join a respected infrastructure contractor delivering high-profile schemes across the region.
    Key Responsibilities:
As the Section Engineer, you will be responsible for:
    * Managing engineering activities across allocated sections of highways projects from commencement through to completion.
    * Providing technical support and leadership to Site Engineers, subcontractors and delivery teams.
    * Ensuring works are delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to the required quality standards.
    * Undertaking setting out using total stations, GPS equipment and traditional methods including profiles, batter rails and pegs.
    * Reviewing construction drawings, specifications and contract documents to ensure successful project delivery.
    * Raising technical queries with designers, engineers and client teams to resolve project challenges.
    * Supporting quantity take-offs and maintaining commercial awareness across project activities.
    * Completing inspections, testing and quality records in line with Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
    * Ensuring compliance with project specifications, design requirements and quality assurance processes.
    * Coordinating with site management teams, subcontractors and stakeholders to support efficient delivery.
    Qualifications & Experience:
    * Degree, HNC or HND qualification in Civil Engineering or equivalent construction experience.
    * Minimum 2 years’ experience working as a Site Engineer or Section Engineer on infrastructure projects.
    * Proven experience delivering highways projects for a main contractor.
    * Strong knowledge of highways construction including carriageways, surfacing, drainage, structures and associated civils works.
    * Experience working on National Highways schemes or similar major infrastructure projects is highly desirable.
    * Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, ITPs and quality assurance processes.
    * Competent setting out experience using GPS and total station equipment.
    * Good commercial awareness with an understanding of cost versus value.
    * Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a wider team.
    * Valid CSCS card, with SSSTS, First Aid, NRSWA and Cat & Genny qualifications desirable.
    * Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the region.
    Benefits:
    * Competitive salary package with company car provided.
    * Life assurance cover (4x annual salary) and company pension scheme with employer contributions up to 8%.
    * 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, with the option to purchase additional leave.
    * Extensive training, professional development and genuine career progression opportunities.
    * Employee Assistance Programme, employee benefits platform, cycle-to-work scheme, free parking and company social events.
If you are an experienced Section Engineer with highways delivery experience and are looking for your next opportunity working on major infrastructure projects across the South East, apply today to be considered.
